Funny thing is, at his age and if he had come through the youth setup, people would be outraged about the thought of selling Janssen. I think also many are visually tricked a bit. He has the appearance of a 25-26 years old, so it's easy to think that he is already quite matured and experienced. But he is in fact not even 23. Granted, there are better players under the age of 23. But there are not very MANY better players under the age of 23 that we would be likely to sign. It is mind boggling to me that somebody would not want to keep him for another season.

And also just one season in erdedivise before he came.

We would struggle to find a player under 23 that could improve upon a record 2 league goals only one of which came from open play? Really? Is our scouting system that bad? And is it really that mind boggling that a club would give up on such a player with such a poor return when the club has given up on the likes of Postiga, Hamadouai to name a few previously who have failed to make the grade? Do you think it would be mind boggling for Leciester to give up on Musa this summer?

Janssen's quotes about more game time make me think it's likely he will leave. Clearly a confidence player and that's got to be tough when you are guaranteed only cup and sub appearances. This one should of worked out but it hasn't. Would be a shame to see him leave but we can't afford any passengers if we are going to win the league. I'm not sure who we could get, but if we could improve him we have to.

Of course it's possible he will leave but I don't see it from this

Vincent Janssen is disappointed with his first season at Tottenham but remains confident of a bigger first-team role next term.

The striker made just seven starts as Spurs finished a record high of second in the Premier League, contributing just two goals which both came from the penalty spot.

Janssen's sole goal from open play came as Tottenham thrashed Millwall 6-0 in the FA Cup in March and the 22-year-old notes his role in the club's best season in a generation was minimal and expects more moving forward.

"I would not have minded had the season gone on a bit longer. I would have played more then," Janssen told NOS. "It is clear that this was not my best season. But I still learned a lot.

"We finished second in the Premier League, so I think we can be satisfied. I did not have much of a role in Spurs' successful season. I expected to play more. But this is the way it is.

"But I did develop. That is the way football is sometimes. Of course, it was a disappointing season. This is not what I hoped for.

"But you can have a bad season. Things have all gone well for me in recent seasons, so a year like this can happen for a young player.

"I am not afraid next season at Spurs will be like this again. I am very confident. Things can change very fast in football!"

“I cannot say anything about that,” Janssen told De Telegraaf when asked about a possible move back to the Eredivisie. “I keep all options open.”

He added: “[My future] is a matter for after the holidays. I want the prospect of more playing time, but otherwise I’m now better keeping my mouth shut.”

I got these quotes from the Standard. The papers will spin it how they want I guess but I think the quotes were slightly different. Hope a good (Incredibly hard) preseason and some sprint conditioning can add some sharpness and more pace to his game.

I think these words are quite telling from Vertonghen as well about playing in Holland. As others have said, before he joined us he'd had 1 season of top level football under his belt. His detractors forget that I suspect.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...ill-tun-around-tottenham-career-a3509041.html

He said: “You get a lot more space. Every team in Holland wants to attack and they don’t really think about defending.

“That’s the philosophy - just play 4-3-3 and play good football in possession, and don’t think too much about defending. That’s why I think strikers get so many chances and goals in Holland, and obviously it’s different here.

Janssen is the back up striker to arguably the finest English centre forward since Alan Shearer. What do people expect?

Give the lad a break, and another season.

What happens if God forbid Harry gets injured for three months or so we need a player ready to come in straight away and that ain't Vincent imo, he weakens the team when he plays .wouldn't mind keeping him as long as we get another centre forward.

That's why we have Son and Janssen will be better next season.

Also he's not necessarily direct backup - that's Son - he's third choice. Really not sure why the rush to get rid of him.

Who do you suggest we get that is happy to sit on the bench waiting for Kane to get injured before he gets a chance to play?

If he's the back up striker to England's finest, Why is is not used as back up when Kane has been unavailable.

I said earlier in the year that I hadn't seen much from Janssen that made me think he could turn it around.

I think in the last couple of months of the season, in the few snippets he got, you could see there is a good player in there but who is low on confidence.

His control is good and he seems to be able to bring others into the game, and he's showing with Holland that he still knows where the back of the net is.

His complete lack of pace is the thing that makes me think he won't ever become part of our first team, but if there's nobody else available at a decent price, I'd be happy for him to stay on next season. As others have said, we play with one striker and when Kane is fit he simply will be that striker. Getting a very good second striker is therefore going to be very tricky.
