we've had worse defenders on the books in the past decade.

I think he's got all the attributes and great technique, but does he have the mental capacity for this level?

...is one of the worst players I have ever seen play for us (been a supporter for 13 years). I know some are going to say "he wasn't so bad (last night)-- he had a decent game save for a couple of mistakes." Unfortunately, that's not true- he had an awful game, as usual. In fact the only thing you might say is that that wasn't his worst game in a Tottenham shirt, that, indeed, he's actually been poorer than last night's performance.

It's funny- I was describing him to a friend of mine with whom I was watching the match (a guy who's both new to football and new to Spurs), and I said that Chiriches is good for at least two truly horrendous, head-scratchingly awful plays per game, minimum. Then, literally seconds after I said this, there goes Vlad, doing one of his patented high-wire acts (you know the kind- wherein he gets himself into a bad position and then proceeds to dribble into an even worse one mere feet from goal). I swear it was like he heard me and wanted to demonstrate for my buddy what I was just talking about.

How is it possible for this guy to be this awful? Is he just uncoachable? Obviously he is talented with the ball at his feet-- but how could he be that bad at defending? Isn't he Romania's number one CB?

I think we're all waiting for him to turn some mythical corner and start playing like the steal we thought we might've gotten when the signing was first announced- but is that really going to happen? I'm simply amazed that a player we bought to defend can't actually defend. It's uncanny.

You are up there with Jimbo as one of the worst posters on this board... He wasn't great last night but far from the worst. At least he has good technique, his main problem is decision making and concentration.

Haven't you contradicted your own point? Attributes and technique without mental capacity don't make a Premiership player.

Physical attributes, flair and skill.

He just need to apply a bit more care and thought. The situation reminds me a bit of sideshow bob at Chelsea or Kocielny at the Goons when he first arrived. Demichelis was stuck with at City and looks a lot more composed and he's far more of a senior player. All of which is why I disagreed that a top side would never play him.

and yet he's linked with Juve, Roma, and even Arsenal?

He might be ok in a league where the game is less intense and he doesnt have to deal with such power, like Italy.

Given Wenger's main criteria for buying players is power and pace, it would be odd for him to want to buy Vlad. If he does though, i hope he plays him against us in February.

If he's the worst player you can remember in a Spurs shirt you have led a charmed life. He's finding it hard in the EPL but at least he tries to play football rather than hoofball. He's played 2 games at RB where he has made a decent contribution and gets this kind of pathetic post as a response. Don't believe our fans sometimes.

I'm not blind to his faults, he does try the enigmatic in situations where most players would be risk adverse, which occasionaly causes trouble but he does it because he can. He's actually a very decent footballer. Would i prefer if he just hoofed occasionally yes, but a lot (most) of the times he mugs the forward off and lays of a decent pass. Worst footballer you've ever ssen..... is that a tear in Jesus' eye.

Not having a good season, but he was ok last year when played consistently.

Right now, you need to realise that he is not a natural RB or a first choice RB, and is actually filling in quite well. You can't expect a reserve RB, trained as a CB, to be like Lahm at a club like ours...

If you can't see the effect Vlad has had on our forward play in the last 3 games then you never will appreciate him.

Strange- because I thought first and foremost he was supposed to be a defender.

In 13 years of watching Spurs- yes-- Vlad Chiriches is ONE OF THE WORST players I've seen at Spurs- particularly in terms of the ratio of how highly rated/touted he was when he first arrived to how he actually plays.

I think some of you need a reading comprehension class- I didn't say the worst, I said one of the worst. He is among a handful of defenders we've had in that time that make disastrous decisions with mind-numbing consistency.

In todays game there are not really many FB's who are good at defending, there is far more emphasis put on overlapping and getting forward.

Notwithstanding the fact that he was bought as a Center Back, obviously. Oh- and have you seen one of our other FBs- a guy named Ben something...oh yeah-- Ben Davies-- have you watched him play at all? Not the greatest going forward but man can the boy defend...so he's a "throwback"-style player then, yes?

I'm sorry that you think that. Would you mind- personal attacks aside- explaining to me how a defender who clearly can't defend helps our cause?
