Its one of the unwritten rules, like you would kick the ball out of play if a player was down, well untill they changed it. That was never a writen rule under the FA but always happened, just like shouting mine.

Did the opposition complain? If not, you're in the clear.

This does not, however, excuse Arsenal players shouting, 'A moi, Didi!' to Zokora. This fiendish practice has to stop.

I think its illegal...

we were always told to put a name on it... infact we had a player sent off in a school match after he got a yellow for twice shouting "mine!"

As I say: Yes to immorality, No to illegality.

All in all one of my better days.

I've never heard of a rule stating that you can't shout "mine" or anything of such nature...

I'll try it next time I play at Powerleague and see if anything happens.

What the hell? Free kicks and cards for shouting "mine"? Jesus wept. I've never even heard of that before. Then again, i didn't play with amateurs who shouted "mine". And if you got put off by what an opposing player said, you'd be out on your arse.

I was always taught to shout your name because "mine" didn't make it clear to a teammate who was claiming the ball.

What kind of Home Counties woofter league gives out free kicks and cards people for shouting "mine"? For chanting "who's the bastard in the black", i can understand.

I don't think Bill's a cheat. Just one of those noncey, amateurish players who shout "mine".

I was told that shouting 'mine' was illegal by a teacher in primary school, but have never seen it in a professional match, so I'd go for the unwritten rule explaination.

Having said that, if anyone is stupid enough to be put off my someone shouting mine in such key areas of the pitch, they deserve to have the ball go in off their arse. Claim the goal my friend, claim it

Just to clarify, I never touched the ball. It went over the defenders (ducked) head and missed my foot, before going in off the keeper's ankle. I haven't claimed it as I think thats even worse than calling 'Mine'.

But yep, I'd agree fully with the last few posts that you shouldn't shout 'mine', but the fault lies with the defender who - had it been me - needed to clear his lines regardless of what anyone around him said, unless it was "Keeper's Ball" in the exact voice of his number 1.

*Goes off to practice his ventriloquism for this Saturdays return fixture.
