Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey has denied making a Nazi salute during a meal with his team-mates.

The Wales international was pictured with his right arm in the air in a photo posted on Instagram by Palace midfielder Max Meyer, who is German.

The picture was taken after Palace's FA Cup third round win over Grimsby.
Hennessey said he "waved and shouted at the person taking the picture to get on with it" and "put my hand over my mouth to make the sound carry".

In a post on Twitter, the 31-year-old added: "It's been brought to my attention that frozen in a moment by the camera this looks like I am making a completely inappropriate type of salute.

"I can assure everyone I would never ever do that and any resemblance to that kind of gesture is absolutely coincidental. Love and peace Wayne."

Meyer posted the picture on an Instagram story, which has since expired, following the 1-0 win over League Two side Grimsby.

Hennessey, who has made 81 appearances for Wales and helped his country to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, played in the victory.

Oh look there's a flying pig outside my window.

What a load of bollocks, it's a deliberate pose for the German behind the camera and we all know it. I'm sure it was only meant as light banter but he's clearly a bit dim.

Would've been better if he'd just admitted it to be honest. I don't know for certain, but assuming he's not secretly a neo-nazi, it was presumably just a joke in poor taste. Should've just admitted he meant it as a joke and wasn't really thinking about the true implications of the gesture but since seeing the reaction he's realised that it's not a laughing matter etc. By coming up with this moronic excuse it's just dragging it out even longer to be honest and makes him look a right wally.

Was Meyer offended by it and posted the pic deliberately to get Hennesey in the shit?

Was just curious, couldn't find anything that gave Meyer's opinion on it.

The FA have decided that the charge is "dumb bastard" rather than "Nazi bastard"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47946382

It said the FA was "entirely justified" in bringing the case but that "rather than giving a Nazi salute, we think it more likely that Mr Hennessey was, as he says, trying to shout at and to catch the attention of the waiter."

Shut. Up.

Honestly, the FA are as gullible as he is "ignorant". The FA is such a pathetic collection - I used to think that they were ineffective in the 90's, had their crutches kicked out from under them once the Premier League was established and have become less and less relevant as every season passes.

That is pretty ridiculous excuse. Surely you could just say you were pissing around and take a slap on the wrist.
