I couldn't think of a worse signing.
Seeing him plod around in games this season has been quite depressing. Seeing him slow down England sides as he drops further back to become involved has also been depressing. Watching him vs Spurs the other week should have been enough for everyone to agree he's finished as a top level Prem player. More likely to get sent off for a mistimed challenge than do anything 'special' (i'm not counting a deflected tap in goal as special). Martial on the other hand...

For England, more energetic players like Alli and Kane have been blunted by Rooney taking their best role and displacing them. Both play for Spurs, so what's the point here?

At this stage, he's far better suited to a team in need of a 'big name statement' because he's not a 'big time player' any more. He's exactly the sort of player West Ham's owners would go for to show 'ambition' - and then regret it by October.

How is signing a player with winning experience weird? But i take that as no, you can't think of one.

"Winning experience" is meaningless if the player wouldn't make the team because he is physically past it. Have you not watched multiple england and man utd managers try and shoe horn him into their teams because they feel the pressure from the press and his reputation etc?

Mourinho had to eat a load of losses while he played him to show every one that dropping him was the right idea. Why would you want to import all that?

"He meanwhile confirmed that the only Premier League clubs he would ever play for are United or Everton."

Disagree. Still think he want to prove something after Man U and I think winning mentality with experience is valuable. It's what we don't have. You cannot argue about his record breaking goal record with both England and United.

Still think he could play well in the PL and contribute goals, more so than what we have in VJ.

For what it's worth, if we were to get a veteran from Man U to help instill a winning mentality I'd go for Carrick all day long. Only about 1 year left in him and couldn't play every came so wouldn't slow down Winks, would teach Winks a great deal, could play with Dembele or Wanyama and is a superb professional who has taken great care of himself and never relied on pace or power in the first place.

Rooney's got two main problems..

  1. He wants to play 1st team football regularly.
  2. He doesn't want to run anymore.

He got really fucking lazy once he got that last big deal at United; for a player who's game was based on aggression and hard running he now looks washed up at the age 31.

I wouldn't have him here under any circumstances. He's a player stuck in a vicious circle created by his own Billy Big Bollocks mentality. A real shame too if you look at the level he was playing alongside Ronaldo when they were at United together.

Ronaldo went on to be the World's best player. Rooney continued to be the player that doesn't even know his best position.

Rooney is shot and he was never consistent even in his prime - one season he would score shedloads (normally in fits and spirts) then the next had scored something like eleven.

And as for his 'winning attitude' he just comes across as a thick mouthy yobby **** to me so don't see how that will help the bond our team has.

He is crap.

A big no thank you and can't believe the OP is still trying to defend this in here lol.

It's called having an opinion.

Why was he made captain for both club and country if he is just a 'thick mouth yobby ****' as you so elegantly put it (the irony)?

So you don't think he's a thick mouthy yobby **** then?

Lol...

https://thisisfutbol.com/2017/05/bl...united-have-had-better-season-than-tottenham/

In quoted published by the Manchester Evening News, United and England captain Rooney implied that the Red Devils’ trophy haul makes their season a more successful one that Spurs’ second-placed finish.
“It’s great to win trophies. It’s what you play football for,” said Rooney. “It’s right to say we want to qualify for the Champions League, but you know, you want to go try and win that trophy.
“Look at Tottenham, they’ve had a fantastic season, finished second, with no trophies to show for it. We’re in the same position, in the Champions League, with two trophies.”

Yeah he'd be GREAT here... :cautious:

Ok, balls on the line, I think Wayne Rooney would be a astute signing for us for a couple of seasons.

Can play up top as cover for Kane or in behind, hard working, determined and would be great experience for our young English squad.

Am I mad?

Are you really Robbiecrackpipe?

West Ham is perfect for him.
