As we are almost certain to be in the Europa league, it is in our best interest to finish 5th, thus avoiding earlier qualification play

Not sure if that's completely correct.

If Arsenal win the FA Cup, and finish in the top 4, both of which is likely, then both 5th and 6th place will go in to the Group Stages of EL.

The place to avoid is 7th as that will involve going into EL in a play off place, which involves an earlier scheduled match.

I think I am one of the few, if not the only one who thinks we are going to beat City on Sunday therefore putting pressure on our current rivals, Pool and the Saints. From there it should be in our hands but I agree, its not over until the fat lady sings!

Not only you. I'm forever optimistic and I see us winning before every game.

Me too. Before every game, I always think we can win.

And after we lose, I always think we can win the next one as well.

And after we lose the next one too, I always think of next season.

And the cycle continues...........its been 34 years now............

I would love to finish 5th.

Atleast it would shut up the people who fail to recognise we've made any kind of 'progress' this season.

Would be very pleased to finish above Brendan Squidface and his boys that promised not to "do a Tottenham" and then did.

The funny thing is they didn't "do a Tottenham", they "did a Liverpool". They were the club that previously spunked around £70 million on Andy Carroll, Stuart Downing and Charlie Adam, just off the top of my head.

We will finish 5th, and after Liverpool yesterday, it's time that our squad decides to simply go for it.

It annoys me how for 2 seasons in a row we've been in contention for 4th place only to bottle it and lose against poor teams. Once 4th is out of our reach we then seem to relax and start picking up points again, finishing in 5th.

In terms of where we finish, 5th I expect and a play off place must be avoided at all costs as there's an above average chance you could end up playing a decent team in the play off and get knocked out... although that could be a blessing in disguise if we can bring in some decent players this summer who are physically and psychologically strong and capable of mounting a real challenge on the top 4.

Great post.

This has been my life as a Spurs fan :arghh:

I think 2009/10 is the only reason when I've ever thought that cycle was going to change! Feels a long time ago now :(

What's most annoying was the last season with AVB we got 72 points which would have been enough for CL most seasons except the one bastarding season we do it.

Not forgetting that even finishing 4th, which has been enough every season since 4 sides were allowed, still wasn't enough for us to qualify because we are spurs.

It's very normal that therefore when everyone else starts fucking up we are nowhere to be seen.

The most important thing is avoiding the earlier Europa League qualification round.

Rumours are that this is on nearly the same date like the Audi Cup with Bayern and Real. And I really want to be part of that instead of travelling to Albania.

The 3rd qualifying round match is on the day after our MLS All-Star match, so the club are either stupid for agreeing that match, or incredibly confident that we will finish top 6 and go into Group or play-off round.
If we finish 7th and Arsenal win the cup we will have to scrap the MLS game.
