Bingo. Mourinho is such a good manager, tonight showed what a great coach brings. He gets it spot on almost every time. 2 defensive mids, 4 players in front of them working there ass off and breaking quickly. Defending as a team. Put in Bentalab and Paulinho and they would have got creamed. Its nights like this i have no hope for Sherwood im afraid. Get the best managers and they will win you games

The scary thing is - that Chelsea team isn't beyond the realms of possibility for anyone who knows anything about the game to pick. I bet a good number of people on here would've picked the same starting line-up and tactical set-up.

Whilst Jose's real talent lies in convincing his players that they're world beaters, giving them the confidence to outplay City and also in making sure every one of them works his nuts off for their manager and team-mates, I don't think Tim would even be able to get the first aspect right (and in fact already didn't), let alone the second part - the part that takes real managerial talent.

Well we could certainly do with hiring better managers than we have been! Thats a start. Why have a Arab owner? We just spent 100 million quid!

Yeah but we had to sell maybe the best player we have had in the last 20 years to get that dough,City and Chelsea don't need to sell anyone.

I see that the "grey-haired old c***" (copyright A Pardew) says he doesn't think the better team won. Given that the width of the cross bar or goal post stopped the score from being 0-4, I'm not sure which game he was watching. Certainly not the same one as all the rest of us were.
Absolutely hate the Chavs, can't stand JM, but hats off to that performance last night. Bloody impressive.

Yes but if Chelsea can have a starting x1 like that for 150 million, why cant/couldnt of we?

because we need to spend around that to build a squad to get through a season, whereas Chelsea have used another £200m odd to do that.

We had a chance to move ahead (or at least on par) with Chelsea and Arsenal a couple of seasons ago but we blew it. And it wouldn't have taken a kings ransom either. If we had been a bit bolder in the transfer market at the key times and kept our best players (and one scenario helps the other) things may be very different now.

Arsenal certainly wouldn't have been able to entice the likes of Ozil etc. Yes, Bale may well have left but we'd have been in a far better position to absorb his loss.

They might have had a poorer season than normal. But while they attract to better players we will always be playing catchup. We have an income which then give us a budget of what we can pay out, simple economics.

Wages alone is where we are blown out of the water. William is a great example.

We are not going to be capable of a sustained push up the table till we increase our income. Look at this season and how Liverpool have improved that was us with Bale, but if/when Suarez moves Liverpool will be struggling.

Why do some people not get this.

It also helps if you have a billionaire owner who isn't afraid to throw chunks of money at his pet hobby and it also helps that you can pay those players a kings ransom every week.

Just a tad.

Don't worry, I get it. Over a longer period, money talks and until we can match the revenue of the bigger teams they will always have an advantage. You can't tell me though that if we had taken a little more risk when we were flying high ( and no, I don't mean a Leeds like total disregard of reality) then we could have cemented CL football for the short/medium term ahead of the gooners. Nothing is guaranteed but I don't think that's such a crazy notion.

Sometimes its not how much money you spend but when you spend it.

@RButch

Not sure why either of those managers would leave for Spurs

Klopp will turn up in England somewhere I'd wager. Won't be City, Cheslea or Liverpool. Arsenal, depends on whether Wenger gets his new contract. Utd are the most viable option.

That said we should be attractive to most managers although I would say Klopp might be a stretch too far.

City did actually have the better of the first 25 minutes and fluffed a couple of decent half chances. The goal changed the game a little, although Chelsea were obviously set up to counter from the off. Going one up made that task easier. Good performance though, has to be said.

Anyone else find it amusing that City spend a trillion quid on players and they still somehow end up with Demichelis in midfield?
