So much has been said above, I won't reiterate it, but all that aside, I'm really excited that we now have flexibility and players who can change games. Players who will fit different situations, and not be square pegs on round holes. We have a great squad now! :)

If a player looks like good value, in other words cheap, "There has to be a reason. Probably a trouble-maker."

If the price looks fair, "Why weren't any of the big boys in for him? Can't be that good. "

If he looks expensive "We were mugged."

Given that's it is therefore impossible to buy a good player at a decent price, I think Levy & Co have done a reasonable job.

Exactly. People are never happy.

Well, for one, we can compete financially, because we literally just did compete financially by spending £30m on a player as they all did. I understand that we don't offer the same wages as everyone else (I'm asuming that's what you meant), this also doesn't exclude the players that we also could've spent £30m on, many I can think of that would've been better value than this. I'm not saying I wanted all of those players instead (although it would've been nice), I'm saying this idea of Sissoko as "value" is absurd. £30m. Moussa Sissoko. We got mugged.

We couldn't afford nor offer any of the players you mentioned wages, and some of them (werner, volland) just aren't that good. The rest of the players signed for teams that are huge and will challenge for domestic trophies year in, year out, and mount serious challenges for the champions league.

GFor example, we matched Everton's offer for Sissoko. The second we did Everton dropped out because they knew that they were not as an attractive proposition as us. In exactly the same way that we are not as attractive a proposition as Juventus, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Man Utd or Chelsea. As soon as one of those clubs enter the race we miss out. We never could have signed those players, so it is a useless comparison to Sissoko.

But how can you say we've been mugged before he has kicked a ball for us, are you basing that on that you have seen of him previously or are you looking into your crystal ball and basing it on what he can do for us moving forward, what if he has a stellar season and we make CL again would your opinion change or will we still have been mugged? The price is what it is.

I mainly used those players as an example of value in the market, as a rebuke to this weird idea that £30m for such an average player is the going rate. I just can't fathom why we decided this was the player to spend such a sum on. It goes against seemingly everything we've been trying to do with our transfer policy over the past few years.

Think we've tried to address most of the holes in the squad minis that competition for Eriksen which I guess would've been Isco.

Can't say whether it's good or bad window, who knows till we see how the 4 new guys perform
They're all a risk minus Wanyama I feel, could go either way

Which I'm sure the same people also whinged about.

I'm basing it on having watched him a lot and having Newcastle mates that have watched him a lot and their conclusive opinion is that he's fleetingly brilliant but mostly uninspiring with a bad attitude to boot. I think it's very, very naive to believe that all of the problems he's shown at Newcastle over the past few years will suddenly go away just because he's playing for a better team.

If he turns out to be a worldbeater (as I hope he does) I'll happily concede. Right now I feel like this is a player we're going to be trying to get rid of at a cut price next summer.

Those players rely on ceteris paribus. But all things are not equal in the world of football, so it is a false equivalency. I mean, even with Morata he had a £25m buy-back clause to Real. No one else could have signed him for £25m. Anyone else probably would have had to cough up £60m+. The "value" that you speak of for these players was not available to us. it was value that we could not get for the players mentioned.

I don't see the connection between wanting us to splash out when the player is worth it and signing Moussa Sissoko for £30m.

People whinge about Levy not backing the manager, and then when he does they whinge about the amount he's spent.

And that's before the player has even kicked a ball for us.

I think people just like whinging more than football sometimes.

Can we all just drop the price tags now?

Sissoko is a spurs player now. No matter what he cost can we just support him?

I know we're spurs fans and we love to hate and bash our own players but for one season can we at least try to get behind the team and hope they do well?

I trust Pochettino, but let's not pretend he's not made mistakes before. He isn't some miracle worker, he's a very, very good manager, and if he's eyed Sissoko as the man he wants and Levy's trusted him that's honourable (although why it didn't happen sooner is odd).

I'm judging Sissoko on the three and a half years he played at Newcastle, during which time he mainly looked average and disinterested. This belief that Poch can set him right and maybe he'll be interested now is nice and I definitely hope it's the case, but isn't it a problem that he's not naturally inclined to try? Believing these issues will go away just because he's playing for a better team seems very naive. And my problem with the money is that I'm certain it could have been better spent on someone better.

I think that with situations like this (and others in the past) you have to adopt the mentality of "I don't like this signing, but I hope with every fiber of my being that i am wrong".

Being wrong in football can be great. I was dead wrong about Danny Rose, and it was glorious.

I haven`t watched a lot of Sissoko bar his games for Newcastle against Spurs, the odd clip on MOTD and France in the Euro`s. Newcastle have been a mess of a club and every team needs a scapegoat, I`m sure Newcastle have plenty of candidates for that. Benitez made him captain, Deschamps trusts him and I have no idea where the source of his bad attitude problems come from, what I can say is that from what I`ve seen he has all the tools, pace, power, strength, ability, great engine and dynamism, he was outstanding for France at the Euro's and I trust Poch to get the best out of him...Let's see how it pans out before we say we`ve been mugged. I think he is going to prove a lot of the doubters wrong.

So actually your issue is with Poch and not with Levy?

Ooooooooooooook.
