On the thread on the Home Page, entitled JimmyG2's 'Style Guide' Part 3 it lists a number of well worn cliches and I hate all of them. The thread invites any new entries but offers no facility for doing so, hence this thread of my own.

The well worn cliche I hate, and always have done, is just before a London derby comes around, and we always hear someone say 'Form goes out of the window'

Honestly, if anyone says that in my company, I'm always tempted to make them go out of the window...!

There. Rant over.

I try to avoid clichés like the plague but anyway...

"Can they hold on to him"
"Other clubs will be sniffing around if they don't win anything this season"

Man Utd made a habit of winning ugly under Fergie....(I've never believed this to be true btw, usually blew teams away)

Wet/cold Tuesday night in Stoke.....

"They can beat anyone on their day."

"Taking it one game at a time." Yep. That's how time works.

But the really brainless ones come in the post-match interviews:
"How happy/disappointed are you with that result?"

Please ask meaningful questions. We already know that the answer will be "very...".

It's like Lee Evans bit about interviewing the athlete who just missed out on a 100m medal...

"How do you think I feel... I've been training for 5 FOOKIN' YEARS!!!"

Use of the word "Understudy".

As if a young player watching Harry Kane in training would make him better than playing regularly somewhere else.

Might just be me though.

“No backlift.”

“He almost hit it too well.”

“The ball picked up pace on the wet turf.”

All classic clichés and pure nonsense.

When a PFM commentator sees Lamela put a challenge in or work his arse off and says, “I didn’t think he had that in him!?”
