I don’t believe this should go in Watford possible team thread. I believe a valid question. Seeing such heavy rain is forecast, can we not have the roof closed? Or is there a reason not? Genuine question.

Probably can have the roof closed, but it doesn't fully close anyway. Just closes enough to cover the fans.

The roof doesn't close at wembley!

At most, it extends to cover the stands a bit more. It doens't cover the pitch.

With Wembley & our new stadium, cannot believe it wasn’t something that was not installed. Nee mind.

Causes all sorts of problems with installations and legislation...worked with a company doing some maintenance on the millennium stadium not so long back and they said its a silly idea installing a roof.

To be fair we have got a pitch we can stick under the stand in the new one, i imagine if he notices it's started pissing down Levy just shouts for everyone to help get the pitch indoors quick like my mum used to shout at me to help bring the washing in off the line, but with less pegs scattered around.

After the League cup final v Blackburn I never want to watch football like that again, worst atmosphere I've ever been involved in bar none.

It's just not practical for anything bigger than a tennis court.

What's the point? It'd cost 100s of millions for something that would be used 2-3 times a year at the absolute most. Massive, massive waste of money

So it’s the structural equivalent of Sissoko. Therefore a definite no from me.

I sit right at the front of the upper tier. Should stay nice and dry right?!

Wrong. An 800 mil stadium and the couldn't even buy some fucking mastic to seal the fucking holes in the fucking roof.

I got dripped on all game vs. Brighton.

Yeah, was going to post similar. It was like watching football in tropical vivarium.

Weather shouldn't be a problem as it's only diagnosed as light rain in the evening. Pitch might be a bit boggy though as all the heavier rain will be in the morning.

I went to the Huddersfield game lower tier behind the goal but the waterfall coming down was a joke. Luckily I was a few rows back

Retractable roofs do work in football stadiums but only when done right like the few that exist in America and mainland Europe. The millennium stadium u fortunately suffers from a number of design errors that cause issues with the pitch.

Wasn’t Wembley supposed to be a closing roof and then the original steel makers went bust and all kinds of other problems arose with suppliers and they gave up on it. I’m sure it was in the original designs.

I’ve been at the Millennium stadium for a Wales vs England rugby game with the roof closed and the noise in there is incredible. I’m sure it adds million and millions to the cost though.
