Today Chelsea and Manchester United meet at Wembley in the FA Community Shield, KO 15:00.

This will be the third time in the last four seasons that the same two teams have contested the trophy, so instead I'll say something about Tottenham's record in the competition which was formerly known as the Charity Shield.

Our first appoearance was in 1920 when we lost to West Bromwich Albion 0-2.

A year later, we were back as FA Cup Winners and beat Burnley 2-0 with goals from Bliss and Cantrell.

In 1951 we were League Champions and beat Newcastle United 2-1 with goals from Murphy and Bennett.

As Spurs won the League and Cup "Double" in 1961, or opponents were a representative Football Association team, which we beat 3-2 with goals from Les Allen (2) and Bobby Smith.

The following year FA Cup Winners Spurs thrashed Alf Ramsey's League Champions Ipswich Town 5-1 with goals from Bobby Smith, Jimmy Greaves (2), John White and Terry Medwin.

The 1967 Charity Shield was played at Old Trafford and honours were shared with League Champions Manchester United after a 3-3 draw in which Pat Jennings famously scored from his own penalty area. The other two Spurs goals came from Jimmy Robertson and Frank Saul.

Our first Wembley Charity Shield was in 1981 against League Champions Aston Villa and a 2-2 draw meant the trophy was again shared. Mark Falco scored a brace for Spurs.

We were back at Wembley the following year but lost to League Champions Liverpool 0-1.

Tottenham's most recent Charity Shield appearance came in 1991 which saw a North London Derby at Wembley as FA Cup Winners Spurs drew with League Champions Arsenal 0-0.
