West Ham ground share news...

A little ITK.

Bumped into a local councillor tonight. The club is attempting to buy all the property between Paxton Road and Northumberland Park—the houses in Worcester Avenue and the entire industrial estate behind N17 Studios. The idea is to build a new ground from scratch here, then demolish the existing stadium and sell the land for housing/commercial use. This renders the groundshare unnecessary.

This is not bullshit.

I personally have no problem with a temporary ground share, saying that if this news came to fruition I'd be over the moon as we wouldn't need to groundshare and could still play at the Lane and stay at our spiritual home with the new ground.

Please keep us informed SS57, sounds great.

i thought the ground was already bought and they were trying to build the stadium behind the old petrol station that is now a shop

That bit is. It's the area north of that, as far as Northumberland Park, that's being lined up for future extension. The ground behind the old petrol station would only enable us to expand the existing stadium. Buying up the rest would enable us to build a brand-new fuck-off stadium whilst continuing to play at the old Lane.

You know it makes sense.

It sure does. The space between Northumberland Park Road and Paxton is far bigger.

I think the West Ham groundshare is a cover for another option, which while not ideal, is more palatable. Which could be us having to wait another 5 years for a new stadium built on land we have yet to acquire, but then people will say "at least we don't have to groundshare with the Spammers".

Hi BOF :) I'd certainly be happy to wait 5 years to avoid groundsharing with anyone, not just Spammers

As I've said all along I think groundsharing is a terrible option and it's starting to look like the board see it that way too - early days yet tho -

The 3 times I've been to Upton Park I've felt uneasy, even though I was sitting with West Ham fans at a non-Spurs related game. It doesn't feel safe, and it's just poo.

Boooooooo. West Ham.

So true, I've been to Upton Park 3 times with my Wham supporting friend and it's not a nice place. Admittedly two of them were against Spurs, which was pretty scary with people outside looking to pick fights with any Spurs fan regardless of if they'd done anything.

Seriously, I almost hate West Ham as much as Arsenal, it's a horrible club with horrible fans and horrible players at a horrible ground in a horrible place and we should probably just kill them all?

I think that some people are missing the point. I'm pretty sure they are talking about a continuous ground-share (well they are on KUMB anyway...)

This rather unpalatable reality seems to have been over looked, but it was certainly the impression I got. That we were looking to join forces with West Ham and build a stadium together that we would share permanently.

This would be bad.

The latest info from SS57 looks a lot more hopeful though, a new stadium without having to groundshare would be ideal. Though it still leaves the question of transport.

Actually I'd have fewer problems with a permanent groundshare with West Ham - ie at a new stadium - we then go in as joint owners with equal rights and cannot then become homeless - I was very happy for us to share with Arsenal on that basis and think we missed a big trick if/when that deal was possible during the building of Cashburden

I'd be less happy in/near Stratford than in Islington, but assuming we got a state of the art stadium with the good transport links that Stratford could provide - it would do me fine and way better than temporary ground sharing -

however of course the giant prize is stay at the Lane, and build a brand new stadium very nearby - that to me is what I want - and it's what the board should want too - and they just have to find the money to make it happen

More likely to replace the trading estate surely, jobs more important than houses in Tottenham I'd have thought.

SS57 do you know if it includes N17 studios ( or do we already own that?) just wondering if it fronts he High road all the way.

I don't believe we're intending to wipe out the school, but yes, all the factory units between the land we already own north of Paxton and Northumberland Park, plus the houses at the north end of Worcester Avenue. That dark line running east-west is the wall dividing the area we've bought and the Wingate Estate back of N17 Studios.

We don't own N17 Studios (yet) Worcester, but the houses north of it along the High Road will stay, I should think. I imagine the development at the current ground will include commercial premises as well as housing.

Doesn't the story go that one of those buildings (the sheet metal works I think...) is owned by a gooner?

Also, surely the leaked drawings suggest we aren't doing this?

Or will they only be "concepts" as such?

Not really sure how this all works

It does. The other property remaining on Paxton is the JW Hall, plus the council offices on the corner.

I should think the leaked drawings are a 'concept', but it would hardly be a problem locating that stadium entirely to the north of Paxton. The huge advantage is that there would be no need for a groundshare.

We could build a stadium like Craven Cottage (only better of course ) with a Jehovah Witness building and some council offices in front of our goalmouth... it'd probably be more solid than Kaboul and Dawson!

Boom boom tsssssccccchhhhhh!
