but in that situatio lst minute and all that you'd put your more experianced man to take it

defoe apart from winning it did fuck all to warrent to take the penalty

If you're talking about taking penalties, then Defoe has taken more than Berbatov (at least for us)... Personally, I'd have given it to Bent...

typical spurs west ham game. they celebrate a draw at full time like they had won it

to be fair we have celebrated a couple of draws against arsenal at home in recent years and I think we'd be pretty happy too is robbo savd a last min pen.

robbo looked good except the one flap, daws looked good

kaboul looked rubbish, he hasnt got the positional awareness for a CB and is far too casual. Like i have said before in another thread and got attacked for it.

Good to see Bale back, his freekicks were generally except for a poor one from close range

darren bent, what the fuck does he actually DO that justifies 16.5mill pounds? Defoe looked far more lively when he came on!

Berba was Berba, some great skill and touches but just getting crowded out alot, he'll find his feet after Jan.

Lennon is a 1 trick pony and some defenders have sensed that, really needs to expand on his game, has he really been watching cristiano ronaldo? more like stew downing!

Zokora did really good, very impressed, same with JJ

Did anyone actually think defoe would score the pen? I didn't.

Why didn't Berbs or Bent take it, Defoe has always been a shit penalty taker, just runs up closes eyes and hits it.

Both Keane and Defoe have taken Pens for us the last few seasons, and both usaly miss one or two over the season as well.

I agree Zokora's sheer pace and athleticism was a virtue when he dropped to spare CB, and he was much more effective there than he had been in midfield. But I still have too many reservations about Zoko's positional sense and reading of the game to think he could play there full time.

Also, do we really think Ramos is going to switch to a 3-5-2? It suits Bale, but I dread to think what a big and physical EPL side would do to Lennon if they had advance warning he was going to play at Right Wing Back...

He played as CB in a back 4 for Genk and did well, but I have no idea if he is a realistic option for us there. But until Jan, I desperatley don't want to see the combination of Kaboul, Dawson and Chimbonda in the same back 4. I'd like to see Zokora given a try against weaker oposition. There wasn't really anything he did when playing in CM today that he couldn't have done from stepping up when playing as a CB (like Rio ferdinand). Hopefully one of our other CBs (Garnder or Rocha) will soon be available, but I can't see Zokora making more positional mistakes at CB than Kaboul or Chimbonda. My worry would be more to do with his aerial ability. He's not really shown to be one to challenge strongly in the air.

I hope you don't think Defoe is in Keane's class when it comes to taking pens, Keane on the park, it's 3 points.

I'd be surprised if Keane's missed more than a couple of pens in his career.

How bad was Mike Riley today?
It wasn't just the pen decisions, he got so much wrong both ways today. If I were at Spurs or Spam I'd organise both sides to sign a petition that he never refs in the PL again.

Defoe missed the pen, so what?? It happens. A point was a fair result today, we played really well I thought and was comfortable up until Kaboul's error. I think Ramos will be pleased, I noticed some good improvements in our passing and Robbo had a good game. Jenas was excellent today and so was Malbranque when he played in the centre. Good to see Bale back too.

From the top of my head Defoes pen records about 3 from 6, whereas Keanes is roughly 19 from 20.

Think that makes my point

Jesus, I'm not saying Defoe is crap and I'm not getting into a keane versus Defoe debate, I like both of them, what I'm saying is on this specific skill, ie penalty taking, Defoe is not very good in comparison, add in the spammer history and I'd have let Berbs or Bent take it.

Robbie has scored many penalties with the keeper going the right way, reason he scores is because the ball hits the side of the net, keeper just can't get there, ie perfect placing, Defoe just doesn't do it.

Wasn't a great peformance to be fair but it was far from our worst. Not sure how much more i can take from malbs, what does he do again??

Chimbs had an eternity to get back for their goal, he must been chasing a fly or something and forgot to chase back.

Defoe was so the wrong person for that penalty its untrue.

Just got back from their ****hole of a ground. Berba should have taken that penno as he has the coolest head on the park, and well done to Juande for taking Kaboul off and changing fromation on 50mins, really changed the game in our favour although it made Lennon non existent.

Really lackluster play today, overall. Disappointing from Lennon and Bale wasn't at his finest, I felt he could have done better at the freekick too. Malbranque had a good game and almost scored a cracker, I so wanted him to score. Robbo looks like he's back to his firey form which is a help, especially with our sad & sorry excuse for a defence. Younes Crapboul was simply useless and I do not rate him in the slightest, waste of 8 mil. Well done to Dawson for the header, though I wish I could say the same about his defending. All in all, not good enough, with the chances we had, it should have been a 3 pointer. Serious transfer market (Serious, not "youth based") action needs to occur, which means, Comolli, get rid of yourself and let Ramos take charge or at least work with him with Ramos having final say.

I have mixed feelings about Ramos's change. Clearly, we needed do to something, it was nice seeing our manager be decisive and changes things early and it provoked an equaliser in some ways, but the players clearly didn't know what the hell they were supposed to be doing. We didn't look any more composed, better organised or threatening than we had earlier (although we may have found Zokora's position!). A lot of today was down to luck, we didn't really impose ourselves on West Ham to the level we should have done. Think a draw was about fair.

I know Chimbo has a great leap, but I couldn't understand why Ramos didn't tell Dawson to mark Cole after he hauled Kaboul off. Is Dawson genetically incapable of playing as the LCB?

As for Zokora, I don't think he's good enough in the air to play as a proper CB in the EPL. And I hear you about the positional blunders of Chimbo, Dawson & Kaboul, but sticking Zokora back there as an outright CB (rather than spare CB in a five like today), would surely just compound the problems. We are now desperately short at CB. Roll on January and getting at least one of Ledley, Gardner and Rocha fit.

Malbranque did look good in the middle - so much so that I think there was a case for playing him alongside JJ there, as pressing, disciplined CMs, having Bale as LM, and keeping YPLee as LB.

Meanwhile Tainio, somewhat surprizingly, seems to have disappeared off the radar under Ramos....
