I enjoyed the fighting spirit, but it doesn't say much about what is going on up front when we have to rely on a 20 year old who has moved from CB to RB to get up field and score. Luvely goal, good assist, but where were thos people who are supposed to score? Apart from sitting on the bench!

Reasons to be positive:
  1. Very young line-up
  2. Didn't collapse after sending off
  3. Missing large number of players who will improve us further
  4. Won difficult game away from home
  5. Passion from Poch was nice to see
  6. Kicked on after west ham sending off rather than accept draw
  7. 3 points on the the board
  8. We have the league's best keeper
  9. Chances are we will strengthen further in the remainder of the window
Yes it's not all rosey but it's better than a lot are making out.

To be honest I disagree with those saying after Dier's performances we don't need to address centre back. Although we defended pretty well collectively Kaboul was very unconvincing as he has been for the past few months and i'd be considering shipping both him and Dawson out.

Get £10m or so for those two and put it towards MM even if we have to overpay a little. At least we won't be paying as much wages wise.

Musacchio, Vertonghen, Chiriches and Dier with Fryers or Milos for emergencies looks like it would be fine.

I'm very interested to see what reception he'll get. Personally I'll just ignore him & focus on our own manager/team but I've no idea what the general consensus is?
Knowing harry he'll be expecting some sort of hero's welcome which I'm not sure he'll get. There certainly shouldn't be any bad feeling/booing though.

Hero.. no but i would like that our club show respect for the men that have made history. And if u respect him with just silence that is fine. But I would like us to show class and dont make something stupid,

I haven't had a chance to read the 100-odd pages, but I presume most people were feeling pretty negative about our first game?

Rose still doesn't believe that trying to stop crosses coming in is something that a full back should concern himself with. He made Downing look like Ronaldo. I thought Rose would start the season but that Davies would end up first choice in a couple of months. I'm now revising that timescale to a couple of games.

It seems Kaboom wasn't just rusty and not quite fit last season when making errors left, right, and centre. He has lost it. Not anywhere close to good enough, and can't be our first choice.

Anything above a Carlton Cole or Vaz Te would have been curtains for us this game.

The headless chicken team syndrome when in possession a la Sherwood was very evident. I hope to God some of those players are coachable. But you're not gonna be able to coach Lennon to do a job inverted on the left. Lennon, as we all know, is not coachable.

Meanwhile, Arsenal looked unconvincing against Palace. The pundits still praised them as being a team who can win despite not playing well. It's the mark of champions, so people say. We managed that yesterday, so I'm looking forward to how we play when it all falls into place.

@panties Wow you can't stand up to any criticism can you? I'm clearly in the right, but now you've neg repped me 4x for no reason. I'll steer clear of going down that path, but hopefully everyone here can see what kind of a person you really are.

@panties please don't start using rep like that, it isn't how it was intended to be used and if it starts to cause grief you'll come out of it the worst.

Redknapp pulled the club together and gave us a happy, balanced squad for the first time in a very long time.

He deserves a warm reception.

He did nothing wrong and the club hasn't felt the same since he left. I hopefully Poch will be a superior coach and really get the team playing well but player recruitment under Baldini is still a major worry. The whole Director of Football structure seems to create unbalanced squads.

Commenting late on the game ( I don't really get on the internet much at weekends)...

Well, it is only the first game of the season, so no point getting carried away off one game. But despite the win, the defence is still a bit shite, the midfield still can't keep the ball that well, and there's not much presence up front. West Ham pegged us back for spells and against a better team I think we'd have been spanked. But then again, Man Utd lost at home to Swansea, Arsenal needed a jammy last minute goal to beat Palace, and Everton drew at Leicester... so we're not the only team to start slowly.

I have said that it'll take a while before we see MP's work with the squad taking fruition, and patience is going to be needed. And going off Saturday's game, there is a lot of work to do.

But the performances were damn awful and dreadful to watch. Looking at that list for me makes me remember how I almost fell out of love with football....almost.

I know we've only had one game but I think there were noteable differences from Saturday to a few of those above. Although we didn' play too well, we tried to, and that's the main point for me. We should some intelligence ot our game, movement and players wanting the ball. All I remember of last season is passing around the back 4 waiting for an opportunity to come and hoping we'd get a penalty/free-kick.

I'd take 3 points over a stylish loss anyday but only to a certain extent. We desrve both!
