So Kane breaks the record and all they can talk about is that a player scoring that many goals should be winning titles. Well the last one who did so in the PL, Alan Shearer won 1 PL and he said he never regretted for a minute not transferring to Man.U etc.

But it has to be said it is a reasonable assumption to be made that a player who has scored more goals than any other in a calendar year in Europe should be in the mix for titles and trophies.

We were reasonably competitive when Leicester and chelsea won the league the last 2 seasons but I wouldn’t actually say we were ‘close’, last year we got to the semi final of the FA cup but hazard and Costa off the bench killed us at 2-2 so mabye that was a squad depth issue.

So if we assume that Harry is willing to give it at least a few more years in the new stadium mabye until he’s 27/28, what do we need to do and improve to win ‘titles’ as Henry calls them(Trophies)?

Is it a specific player or players and if so in which positions, or is it our mentality, is it winning away against our direct rivals, is it just time and experience or a mix of all of those.

Assuming being positive we will keep all our players next year but with doubts around Toby and Rose then we will need to obviously replace them with real quality. I think to take us to the next level we actually need 4 players:
1. A top class back-up to Kane who can also play alongside him. All top teams have 2-4 top strikers and Llorente just isn’t good enough.
2. A world class CM to replace Dembele who is unfortunately too injury prone. Someone like Gomez from Barca etc who can dictate play and take control of the game
3. A pacey direct option who has quality, so an upgrade on GKN , Zaha would be my choice.
4. Another versatile squad player option who is an upgrade on Sissoko, possibly a Barkley, but I see him going to Chelsea.

I then think the new stadium will
Help as playing at Wembley probably knocks off a good 10pts from home games across a season purely because it’s not a home ground. I think we need to improve further our tactics and results in big games especially away to the top6.

If we do all of that and Man.City come back to a normal level I think we will have a really good chance of winning something in the next few years
But it will be tough and I’m worried if we don’t keep the players we need to or replace them adequately and start to add some top top players to th squad that we will be competitive but will keep falling just short.

We also need to pay slightly higher wages once the revenue from the new stadium kicks in.

Squad would look something like:

Lloris (Vorm,Gazzaniga)

Aurier (Trippier*upgrade if poss)
Toby (Sanchez)
Jan (Dier)
Rose (Davies)

Wanyama (Dier)
New CM e.g. Gomez (Winks,Dembele) + Barkley/Alli when needed

Son (Zaha)
Alli (Barkley)
Eriksen (Lamela)

Kane (New top class back-up ST * i would go for celtics dembele+ Llorente)

Thoughts?

I wouldnt call Gomez from Barca 'World Class'.

But anyway, we wont win titles consistently until we can pay what it takes to both keep and bring in top players.

We are going to have to pay more to get top players willing to fight for their spot or rotate on regular basis. We showed our quality today and I think Lamela coming back will push our attacking 3 behind Kane to show better industry and quality. We need the same in CM. It is going to be hard to get a quality player behind Kane because they are going to know their only real chance is an injury to Kane.

We need that CM I wanted during the summer window but was never signed. We also need more players who can score more often. Our goals these days are distributed over 4 players. As much as that is not bad, and highly acceptable for a top 4 team, to win titles we need more players who can turn up and chip in with decisive goals.

It's unrealistic to expect titles until we're spending as much as the top teams...that's how football works unfortunately.
Bar the extremely unlikely Leicester type scenario, the big spenders win virtually all the trophies.

We have a good enough 18 but you need at least 21 quality players these days. Our biggest problem is with a few injuries we don't have the same quality replacements coming in. The injury to Wanyama has been a big one for example. We have Dier to fill in but he's being over played particularly because he also covers at the back. Lamela and Rose missed a lot of action too.

We're getting there though. I think we need to rotate a bit better in certain positions but we don't have the right players to come in. Lamela will help us rotate in the attacking positions. I still think we could do with one more attacking midfielder. Llorente is also a good short term backup but a young prospect that we can rely on up front. Maybe another experienced centre back.

I think we have to assume we're going to pick up a few injuries so we need a strong 18 man squad when players are injured. Not only if everyone is fit. A few key signings in the next 2 windows and we could be there.
