I think Nolan has all the right attributes bar one - quality. In many respects he is everything we need and I can undersatnd why you'd suggest him, but at the end of the day I don't think he is a good enough technical footballer. For the same money we can sign Appiah. He is definitely available and has everything we need. Can get up and down the pitch, is agressive but technically sound and will both score and create goal. He is also Captain of Ghana so has leadership skills.

Yep, I'd love to see him at Spurs. He was fantastic in the world cup, and the last African Cup IIRC too.

There are quite a few posters here that repeatedly call for us to sign him. The annoying thing is that he'll end up at Everton or Man City.

Yup can see him going to either of those two.

We really should be busting a gut to get him. Will be very disappointed if we miss the boat, again.

Unless of course Ramos already has other player in mind. Didn't he sign Alves as a complete unknown for 500k? Or maybe he actually thinks he can turn Zoks / Jenas / Hudd into what we need. If that's the case then bloody good luck to him. I certainly wouldn't fancy it. The annoying thing is, I think that all 3 of those players, and certainly Jenas, could be much, much better playing next to Appiah.

Personally I think it's time we didn't try and sign 'the next xxx'. We need one or two of 'the CURRENT xxx'. Appiah is one of those imo, as well as many others as you said.

I dont think we ll get Poulsen from Seville as their chairman dislikes us for obvious reasons and Im sure an unnamed Premier club had a a large bid (8 million I think) turned down for Brown in the summer. Kallstrom would be my first choice although would he leave Champions league for our struggling team at the moment.

Poulsen and Riquelme. Wouldn't say no to Kallstrom.

I'm prepared to get slated for this, as I dislike him with an intensity, but if you want a vocal central midfielder, there's only one name I can think of, Nigel Reo Coker.

Okay, so he's baby bentley and he went to villa, but everytime I've gone to a game involving him I've ended up with a headache he shouts so much.

I could not agree more.

Could not be more spot on. I don't know much about Appiah but we've got enough youngsters for now. It's time for players who can play the game now.

I wanted Sissoko before he extended his contract.

And before you saw him play against Marseille?

I think Sissoko will be off in January regardless of his new contract if many reports are to be believed. I like him and think he's considerably better than our current crop of no-hopers. But having said that I think we can get better.

Poulsen is the man in my opinion.

yup you will get slated - we need players that play all the time not just when they want to play or feel in the mood or get on with the manager that day

Yes he's very vocal but he's a *****, has a poor first touch and passing ability and is the most reckless player you'll ever see

I started a thread a couple of months ago titled "leadership needed". But to be fair we all know it. I think Joey is being a bitharsh on Nolan when he says he is lacking technically - I actually think he's pretty good technically - I just think he is not a midfield general or a box to box type he seems to prefer to play nearer the opponents box than his own.

Appiah would be great, and I was disapointed we didn't pick him up when he went to turkey. My one doubt would be whether an african player like him would come in and take control verbally immediately - would he have the language to do so.

A player that I really was disapointed we didn't compete for at the time was Barry Ferguson. I really thought he had "midfield General" stamped all over him. I still think he is aplayer with everything. He works hard, tackles, has skill and is a natural leader.

Another player I have mentioned before id Achilie Emana at Toulouse. Similar qualities to Appiah. Tackles well distributes well short/medium and gets forward and scores the odd goal.

Appiah is fluent in English. Ghana is an English speaking country. Obviously there are other dialects, but everything important ie business administration, schools, government etc is all in English.

Interview with Appiah. The only issue would be his accent, but it isn't any worse than Poyets.

And we have lots of Ghanaians in Tottenham, so loads of shirts to sell! (A Turk would also be a good buy on those grounds.) The big disadvantage would be that no sooner would he have arrived than he'd be off to the ANC.

I think we have a fair amount of quality at the club already.

Zokora was great in the World Cup and was wanted by a lot of very good clubs including Arsenal. He's very physical and works exceptionally hard. Like any player there are aspects of his game that need working on but he has some great positives.

Tainio - Haven't seen enough of him to make a personal opinion but my ex french room mate still goes on about how great a player he was in France and his determination and selfless hard work is a quality any top team needs.

Jenas - A very solid player who despite looking great in his very early years looks to have reached his potential. Still he has a great engine and can score goals.

Lennon and Bale - Britains two latest wonder kids full of energy, skill and enthusiasm.

The Hudd and Boateng are both great prospects with Boateng being Germanys young player of the year last season and Huddlestone was England U21s player of the tournament.

For me Ramos has been hired as head coach and his job is get the best out of our current players and needs to do what jol unfortuantely never could, get them to work as a unit which both protects the defence and create chances for one of the best strikeforces in the Prem.

As for the players that are being suggested we buy. Nolan is a decent prospect but I feel he doesn't add any extra quality to our team. Now barry is in the England team i can't see Villa parting with him unless someone puts in a very high offer. I don't think any of the top four would be interested in him and Reo Coker is much the same as Nolan.
