Anyone know why we've been wearing blue shorts in the CL?

Why not all white in Europe anymore?

As a traditionalist Spurs fan, I was not expecting us to come out in navy shorts last night against Twente. We wore our all white European strip against Young Boys and at Werder we had to change to navy due to a clash.
But it looks like we surredered our European tradition instead ....

I was gonna ask this last night. Its a pity they didn't wear white shorts what with it being a bit of a historical occasion an' all.

Does it really matter?

We won the game 4-1 to stay joint top with Inter and people are worrying about the colour of the shorts?

Heresy for saying it given our illustrious European history, but I think the home kit works better with navy shorts rather than white ones whether we're playing in the Premier League, the Champions League or the Haringey Borough Under 10s League. White shorts with a white kit just looks too much like Leeds Utd to me - a lilywhite shirt with navy blue shorts can't be beat, for me.

I wondered this as they were in all red, so it can't have been anything to do with their kit.

According to the club shop, the white shorts "are the Spurs men's home change shorts for season 2010/11. These shorts will be worn in European competition in line with the tradition and history of Spurs in Europe and domestic cup competitions with the Spurs Cup Shirt."

So it is very strange that we didn't wear them last night. We did wear them at home against Young Boys.

Firstly of course I'm chuffed that we won so resoundingly.

Secondly, we're not joint top with Inter - our goal-difference is one less.

Lastly, I was just curious as to what was happening to an old tradition of ours. We must guard our better traditions otherwise they can easily go the way of Audere-est-Facere.

I contacted the club about it - they said this:

THFC said:
Whilst we wore white shorts for our home time with BSC Young Boys, for the home game with FC Twente, UEFA requested that we wear blue shorts. We hope to revert to the white shorts for our other Champions League matches, clashes permitting.

I cant understand why UEFA would want us to wear blue shorts though? Surely as the home side we can wear what kit we want?
Fair enough the colour of shorts doesnt really make that much difference in the grand scheme of things, but the all white kit to me is a key component to the european glory glory nights at the Lane.

Leeds didn't start playing in all white until the 61/62 season under Revie, who was apeing Real Madrid, ironically the same time and same reason that we did it (although for us it was obviously only in Europe). Before that they were playing in Gold and Blue.
