Now West Ham are preferred bidders Leyton Orient have a club on their doorstep that is going to be competing directly at their price point (maybe even undercutting Orient).

An advantage that our bid had was that we aren't really competing with Orient for fans (due to our fanbase and ticket prices). West ham on the other hand could destroy Orient.

Having said that I woul dprefer to watch a game at Orient than at the running track.

they said they would put in an appeal against West Ham moving into the OS. Looking for compensation.

Apparently the compensation would have to be enough to move Orient to a new ground. Perhaps they could give them Upton Park? Would be nice to get some atmosphere over there.

I think they're considering moving into the Hockey stadium.

I forsee Mr Hearne seek a bit of compo for losing a bit of business when, lo-and-behold, Messrs Sullivan and Gold extend the hand of football friendship and offer a groundshare to help their smaller neighbours share the spoils of a shiny new stadium post-olympics (and, because finances are starting to look a bit dicky, they could get a bit of rent sub-letting to The Os every other Saturday).

i've read somewhere* that hearn has been angling to move orient out of brisbane road for some time, now; perhaps as far out as harlow. and it's been suggested that his scaremongering on the issue (saying how this could be fatal to the club, etc.) is all part of softening the fans to a relocation. a bit of monetary compensation would help that along nicely, i suppose.

beneath the whole thing, apparently, is the fact that hearn, himself, could profit nicely from the redevelopment of the property around brisbane road ... so he's not, perhaps, as indignant as he makes out.

not that this does Os fans any good, of course.

*a recent issue of WSC, as i recall.

Well breaking news on SSN is that Leyton Orient are taking the decision for judicial review. Seems like they are looking for compo from Newham, Government and also the Premier League if i listened properly (which is unlikely!!!).

Interesting when you consider our legal process that we are embarking on.

Leyton Orient have joined Tottenham Hotspur in launching legal action against West Ham United's proposed move to the Olympic Stadium.
Spurs applied for a judicial review against Newham Borough Council and Orient have now followed the same path.
Orient have also confirmed they will be making subsequent judicial review applications against the Government, Premier League, the Minister of Sport and the Mayor of London.
The club's owner and chairman, Barry Hearn, revealed that the point of law behind their action against Newham Borough Council is their £40million loan to the company which will be set-up to run the stadium after the Olympics and who will rent the venue to West Ham.
"The whole plan is that we do not want West Ham in the Olympic stadium, it is black and white, we think they are on our patch"
Barry Hearn Quotes of the week
Hearn told Sky Sports News: "The whole plan is that we do not want West Ham in the Olympic Stadium,

it is black and white, we think they are on our patch.
Big forces of evil

"We think various parties have acted unlawfully and illegally and they need to be called to task. We have started today with the official announcement we have submitted for judicial review an application request against Newham Borough Council.
"The £40million has been illegal and unlawful, it is not what a council should be doing, they do not have the powers and have acted beyond their powers to give this £40million loan.
"It represents a state subsidy, a subsidy of a Premier League football club which is against European and British competition laws, we are very solid in our case and we will pursue this to the bitter end.
"We follow this with judicial applications against the Government, the Minister of Sport, the Mayor of London, and we take action against the Premier League for breaching their own rules as well.
"This is an all-encompassing charge by Leyton Orient,

a battle by the little man against the big forces of evil if you like, this represents a challenge to our future and we have no choice but to fight our corner, and we believe we have right on our side."
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) backed West Ham's bid to use the stadium after the games in February.
