Pogba is the biggest waste of money in the history of the sport so far

He's not, he just isn't being played in his correct position. He's shown glimpses of his ability when he's actually deployed in a 4-3-3, check the Everton game for example.

He had to play deeper I reckon because Sanchez was ahead of him.

Yep Utd have created a problems for themselves by signing Sanchez, they look more unbalanced now. Think is Sanchez, Lukaku and Pogba have to play and it's clear already that playing these three is going to cause problems playing in the same team.

Not for me. For £90 million hes a midfielder and should be able to play in a midfield 2. He just looked ordinary next to our midfielders. You mention glimpses, surely he has to do more than that for £90 million!?!?

If he played for us he’d get more abuse than sissoko for joining for that much and playing like he has so far.

That's not how it works though is it. He's not a defensive midfielder he's a central defensive midfielder. He's always been a CMF for Juve and France, Utd play him in a 2 alongside Matic which is difficult enough if you don't have defensive instincts and your game is to go forward.

It's like saying for £200m Neymar should be able to play as a lone striker, the fee is irrelevant in this case.

And the rest of my post, which refers to why he’s a waste of money so far. He’s done nothing!

Also, what’s the difference between a defensive midfielder and a central defensive midfielder?

And against us last season at Old Trafford.

Some short memories here. Sure he was poor last night, but last year at Old Trafford he made Wanyama and Dembele look like children. It was the only time all season that they were comprehensively out played, out muscled, and all round beaten up, and it was pretty much Pogba playing a lone hand. He was incredible that day.

so...onto the weekend...I've just been over to RAWK...fuck me...somebody shoot me...

Something sticks in my craw when I hear Tottenham described as a ‘big club’. They’re not a big club. They’re a very decent team at the moment and they can draw 50,000 to Wembley when they play the likes of Stoke and West Brom, but that doesn’t make them a big club. Big clubs win Titles and do so across several decades. They have a tradition of success. Everton are a Big Club it pains me to say. Tottenham aren’t. My mate Paul supports Spurs and right now he’s cockerel-a-hoop, so I have to keep reminding him that his club have never won the Title in my lifetime – and I’m extremely old.

I saw the fixture earlier in the season. The 4-1 thing at Wembley. We had over 70 per cent of the possession which, as PoP will tell you, means we couldn’t win the match. But to lose by that score? That was unusual. Admittedly Dejan Lovren had a pantomime match (“he’s behind you!”) and their goalie made our goalie look even more flaky than he actually is, but it was noticeable how Spurs struggled to string three consecutive passes together for most of the game. On the break they were different. Like us in fact. Son, in particular, looked as if he’d been coached up by Klopp himself. And of course Harry Kane just needs a sight of goal and the shot is despatched. Personally I couldn’t care less whether both Bello and Bradley both baldly lied, I’d like to see Harry Kane in gaol.

But, hey, this is Anfield and Tottenham don’t like Anfield. We’ve only lost once since that Wembley calamity too – and that was to the best team in Wales. So I’m expecting a 4-1 to us this time. Sure, Tottenham are on a roll themselves at the moment. They pissed all over Man United last night, although they struggled against a better organised Newport at the weekend. Paul tells me that it will be a comfortable victory for his team, but he’s said that on every single occasion that Spurs have visited Anfield since I’ve known him. And I’ve known him since 1984. They’re like that, Tottenham fans. Utterly deluded. It’s a great thing to be since you always come up smiling even when the rest of the world knows you’re bonkers.

I think we'll avenge the away defeat from earlier in the season, just like we did with City. We're well placed within the top four, and a win or even a draw will keep that going.

Need another massive performance from the midfield as we seen against City, think they're the key to winning this. Not entirely sure he's done anything to earn his place at the moment but I'd play Wijnaldum as he's always up for these games at home. One of Chamberlain, Milner or even Henderson in as well. Despite my frustrations with him Can should start I think, a good performance from him on Tuesday.

Spurs is always an interesting one. Them winning last night done us no favours but at least we've closed the gaps back to 3 points to the mancs. Ideally they'll leave a lot of spaces upon in behind and I'll be confident as long as we get the first, put pressure on from there and they'll collapse, simple as. Going to be a long 3 day wait for this.

I would say Spurs are a big club if honest.

Certainly going in right direction with team and new stadium also.

Yeah they haven't won anything for long time but we have 1 league cup win in last 12 years??

Spurs have exactly same pulling power as us at moment imo

I think Lawro wrote this one...
One of the games you expect us to perform best in, good attacking side at home

While I can see Spurs playing on the counter, I do take the point above from PoP’s analysis and E2K’s recent analysis that dominating possession above a certain point seem to harm our game. Was Huddersfield an exception, I haven’t checked the possession stats?

Again this feels like we need to either be very patient in our build up and hope we create something very penetrating. Or like vs Huddersfield we get a thunder strike from distance in (like Can’s goal and like we saw from Phil in past games)...

Alternatively, we could start taking some strategic points from Rugby and have a secretly disguised policy of “miskicking” the ball into touch in opposition’s half. This gives us the opportunity to press them a bit more in their own half. I’m half joking, only half.

After their earlier win at Wembley, and having beaten the Mancs, I’d fully expect Spurs to come out confidently and give it a go at Anfield. Hopefully this means we’ll just “edge” possession up to the 60% range and, when any attacks break down, hit them with the counter-press.

Biggest selection question for me is at centre half. After the clean sheet from Lovren and Matip, do we just put VVD back in and who for? If we play a high line you’d think so.

They’ll have their hands full with our front 3. We’ll have to keep an eye especially on Son, Kane and Alli for me. And avoid giving away cheap free kicks for Eriksen.

Fancy us to win 3-1. Up the Reds!

Well that's not true at all, he's been one of Utd's best players this season and he's a contributing factor as to why they are 2nd in the league, when he got injured their performances dropped.

I meant a central midfielder not a central defensive midfielder.

You can understand why they are confident given their record at home but I we are no mugs.

Depends which spurs shows up i guess but I would love nothing more than to put then in their place.

Ok. I’ve just been disappointed with him every time I’ve seen him play for them which is about 10 times.

Agreed. Put Matic and last night's Dembele in a midfield 2 with Pogba a free rein ahead of them with a front 3. He would be, and has been, fantastic.

Good grief, that first post is horrendous!
Here’s the truth about that poster and his Spurs “mate” Paul.

He thinks Paul is his mate. The reality is Paul sits on the desk next to him at work. Paul hates him. He dreads having to come in and listen to how great Salah and Mane are when Liverpool win.

Paul once pissed in his “Miracle of Istanbul” mug after getting battered at office Xmas party...

.. but that's missing the point. He's a perfectly decent Premier League midfielder but, for the money they paid, they clearly thought they'd bought someone who'd become the beating heart of their team, a sort Roy Keane figure, but with some footballing ability....

It's not missing the point at all, just because you pay a high price for a player it doesn't mean he's gonna excel in a position unfamiliar to him. It's up to Utd to get the best out of him and playing him in a role which he isn't suited to just will not work.
