Well. After our game against Juve the WhatsApp group I have with my friends was silent. After Liverpool it was full of compliments. It consists if two United fans, a Liverpool and a Huddersfield fan. Are we getting under the skin of others who expected us to fall away or do ppl think a draw away at juventus is nothing to crow about?

Like I've said before, I really feel like there's more of a jealousy factor when it comes to Spurs, maybe because we're the team that's not meant to be there. Everyone is used to the other teams being up there yet in recent seasons we're the team that's gatecrashed the party and really, we're doing what every team outside of the major EPL clubs aspire to do, doing so without the resources of some of the other clubs. And now some of those big teams themselves are aspiring to be like us, at least in terms of what we're producing on the pitch and where we seem to be going as a club.

Also reading the RedCafe thread for the Juve match is a right laugh. After going 1-0 and then 2-0 down they are absolutely fucking loving it, loving it to death. "Spurs are shit, Same old Spurs hahaha, how did we lose so badly to this team, so Spursy, Spurs are scared, Spurs bottling again hahaha."

Then as the game goes on the tone completely shifts and goes from "Spurs aren't actually playing too badly here, Spurs doing ok now but need a goal, there it is, Kane, that man again had to be him, Spurs doing well now". To at 2-2 being "deserved goal as Spurs have dominated, Spurs the much better team and deserve this, great goal and since going 2-0 down Spurs have been far better, all you posters who laughed before now look stupid don't you" etc.
The complete contrast from start to finish is hilarious.

Much like our match thread then! I actually thought we'd got on top between their two goals and wasn't unduly worried, even at two down.

Haha very true! Only difference being the joy that they portrayed but yeah, the change in tone very similar :D

Had a City fan tell me our win wasn't great as they were missing Matuidi, Dybala, Cuadrado and someone else. No one seemed to care when we missed half of our squad while beating Real and Dortmund

We've produced some wonderful displays of late, league and Champions league.

I couldn't care less if all and sundry want to ignore this fact, instead looking for flimsy excuses to argue why we are doing well.

Couldn't give a sh*t if some think said team/s were poor, past their best, had injuries or whatever else the latest excuse is to be rolled out.

Not our problem, get your houses in order. Don't give me waste of time, bullshit to veil the fact that these teams were not ready to face up to Spurs.

We've had to build to get to this stage, dealing with injuries, transfers, moving to Wembley, inferior spending money in comparison to some.

So feck right off with the ridiculous excuses as to why we are doing well against some of these so called big clubs.

If Juve squad deemed past it, too old. They've had opportunities to address this. Tough sh*t.

Same as the rest, if they're deemed not good enough, tough sh*t, build a team that is...it's what we've had to do.

You get a winner rating just for the fact you said "couldn't care less" rather than "could care less". My faith in humanity is restored.

He's one of these:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/14/tottenham-hotspur-delight-champions-league-juventus

No doubt things would have been very different had we been blessed in the spring of 1999 with the instant hive mind of Twitter and Facebook. Those watching would have been made aware that, in fact, United were extremely lucky, overrated and favoured by referees. That Paul Scholes was a thug and Keane a coward. That Juventus were missing [insert name of player here] so it didn’t count anyway.
...
In terms of reaction and response this is the most notable aspect of writing about Tottenham right now, the constant anti-chorus of sceptics, doom-merchants and all-round nay-sayers. Spurs, we hear, are simply media darlings, beneficiaries of a conspiracy to project their successes as more valid and more life-affirming than other high-achieving English clubs. Spurs are the ewoks here. Look at them. Look at their floppy ears. Their bows and arrows. And who doesn’t like ewoks?

To be fair, our win wasn't that great, not least because we, and I hate to break it to you like this, didn't actually win...

Good point apart from that though... (y)

Am i the only one that would have preferred if the media were having a go at us for letting in 2 early goals and not winning the game?
That is when we know we have truly arrived. Not when they are patting us on the back for getting a draw in turin but when they are criticising us for not winning there.

Hopefully it will come.

Interesting chat with a Liverpool fan earlier over who’s had a better champions league campaign so far between the two teams.

My argument:
  • beat the reigning defending champions Real Madrid
  • beat Dortmund home and away
  • topped our group with 5 wins and 1 draw
  • knock out phase away to Juventus (Italian champions twice finalists in last 3 years) came back from 2 goals down against a team who hardly ever conceede

Their argument:
  • Scored more goals than any other team in CL
  • Away leg in knock out phase won 5-0
  • Pretty much guaranteed into quarters already
Can’t seem to get my point across that they’ve had a piss easy group (where they only won 3 games compared to our 5) and played possibly the easiest team left in the competition while we’ve played both of last years finalists.

Ended up saying both teams are doing great just think our progress so far has been far more impressive but he’s on the typical football fan view of yeah but we won 5-0 and you only drew 2-2 (yes I realise I’m probably doing the same from his perspective)

Let's be honest, Liverpool haven't even played a Champions League game so far this season. All of their opponents have been Europa League standard.

Be it in the quarter's or semi's, their luck will run out.

Absolutely pointless argument, should have just let him carry on.

Laughable. Ten of their goals scored were over two games agains those giants of Slovenian football by the name of NK Maribor.

I reckon Stevenage Borough would have beaten that mob.

Just caught up the highlights of their game and I can honestly say let them get all excited about an emphatic win against a team who;
1. Played into their hands by leaving that space in behind that Liverpool crave.
2. Are very very average, even for Portuguese team standards.
3. Are very poor defensively anyway.
4. Were beaten at home 3-1 by Besiktas.

Do they deserve praise for winning away from 5-0? Yes.
Is everyone associated with Liverpool overlooking certain aspects and getting carried away again?? Yes.

Our performance and result was much much more impressive
