Anyway, apologies - this should prob be in the pundit thread or ‘its JJ’s fault’ thread.

Back on topic, I just got this text from my gooner mate:

‘Have you lot got your own alternative of St Tottering’s day? If not, you’ll need to think of a name by the end of the month’.

It’s only March. It’s a beautiful thing.

Just tell him we don't do that sort of thing, it's all a bit 'Arsenal'.

I would ‘winner’ that but I ended up replying ‘yeah it’s St Getusedtoit Day’ so I’d be a hypocrite :D
We were chatting about this in the pub with a few Gooners we know, I pointed out that finishing above the worst Arsenal side I can honestly remember isn't really something to celebrate.
There was this lovely long silence as the awful realisation really hit home for them.

Maybe it’s just me, but why would you want to follow football on social media anyway? Unless of course none of your real life friends/family/work colleagues have any interest in football.

Thankfully the only people I engage with on the internet who want to talk football are on SC...... which is quite handy as they all support Spurs :D.

I used to follow things like the Match of the Day and BBC Sport pages on Facebook, as they were good ways to keep up with various stories and catch things I might otherwise miss - and of course Spurs stuff. But those two pages in particular, as well as Sky Sports, the official Spurs page and even well known fan pages like COYS News have just become more and more infected with a mix of foreign fans just typing complete and utter shit, and opposing fans with giant chips on their shoulders who are mentally incapable of not acting like complete twat 100% of the time.

I never used to use Facebook much for actual friends stuff, but it was good for various pages to follow. Now I don't even use it for that.

Depending on who you speak to, that’s either their horrid realisation or their excuse. I often get ‘you must be so happy you’ve finished above us when we’re at our worst... and we’ve still won 3 cups in 4 years’. It’s hard to argue with that, but we all know deep down that they’re hurting inside and that’s enough for me to aggressively masturbate to later on that night. Though sometimes it can be difficult if I have Arsenal TV on.

Sometimes.

At face value it's quite impressive, but didn't one year they have home ties all the way to the final, including 2 non league teams, and another year they had the mighty Hull in the final?

Fuck me they've had some fortunate draws in that Cup.

And I hope to fuck we win it after our favourable draws this year. I’ve already seen comments from various fans about that and the Wembley factor etc. Lots of fans are just always looking for excuses when it comes to us, no one will just accept we’re really good and on the verge of something special.

I've heard that the site Twitter is a good for balanced, well thought out, cultured debate.
Just tell him we don't do that sort of thing, it's all a bit 'Arsenal'.

If we had finished above them for all those years then I would expect that we would have that day aswell.

Let them have it. Finishing above them this season, like you said, isn't any great achievement.

I think it became really popular for them during their barren spell where they didn't win a trophy for ages, so they effectively created a day that they could celebrate like they'd won a trophy, to mask the fact they weren't actually winning fuck all.
As has been pointed out, we were largely shit for most of it, nothing to celebrate at all really.

I think we all know that we need a trophy soon, as finishing above them, although nice, doesn't really mean shit.

I'll acknowledge it more when it becomes routine.

Something like last year they drew the lowest ranked team in every round and since Emirates started sponsoring the FA Cup they'd only had two away draws.

I won't go as far putting on the old tin foil hat on, but they have been incredibly lucky with the draws.

So far maybe, but realistically if we get to the final this year we'll have to get past Chelsea or United, possibly both...massively different to Hull or Villa in the final.
We had nice draws last year too.

Yep. He’s just being honest but that particular explanation he gave seemed a little odd (even though it’s entirely plausible) which is why Shearer responded to it with that message. Not having a pop at Jenas or anything, I actually liked him as a player. It was very honest of him.

He used Newcastle as his example but he got most of his caps with us (I think), so I reckon he was trying to be respectful to Spurs because he sees us as ‘his team’. So what he probably really meant was that coming back to Spurs and playing with the likes of *insert crap Spurs player here* and not fighting for the CL places hindered him. That, on top of his attitude as a player (according to himself) unfortunately resulted in him not achieving what he wanted to.

Anyway, apologies - this should prob be in the pundit thread or ‘its JJ’s fault’ thread.

I think that's more evidence of Shearer being a tit
