This comment in the highlights for Newcastle v Arsenal made me chuckle.

I love the pessimism of some fans. It takes me back to the vast majority of my spurs supporting life. In some ways, I miss that point of view. Expecting to win still feels weird. Plus, it has made many spurs fans far too serious!
Yeah, times were good when we were shit

I love our current team and progression. Long may it continue. I just hope we retain some humour and can laugh if and when we lose a game. Football humour can be ultimately British, I.e. Swansea singing "we're shit and we're 1 nil up...." and the comments above by Brighton fans. It's brilliant and makes football more enjoyable. I don't want to be shit. But I equally don't want to be lumped in with humourless self entitled football fans like yanited, arsenal Liverpool etc.

I don’t think we’re about to lose the gallows humour just yet. Remember we’ve still got a semi final to cock up and bring us right back on track ;):D.

From RAWK, But it caught my eye and I just find it really odd for some reason, can't put my figure on it

"Should they be getting a lot of credit for this season? They're basically part of a top six structurally these days, this season both Arsenal and Chelsea have been below par, so Spurs are ahead. You look at their points total it's good, but unless they go on a tear and win every single one of their the last few games it won't be great. Looking at their records, from 2009 onwards they've basically been finishing on between 60 - 70 points and they've finished mainly in the 4th - 6th places with those totals, except for 70 points (15-16) - 3rd place and the standout 86 points (16-17) - 2nd place.

They're on 68 now with 4 games to be played. They're basically where they're supposed to be in a season where 2 of the top 6 have been underwhelming, so Pocchetino shouldn't be getting too much credit for this one? Not having a go at him / them, just curious how their own fans rate this season."

First initial thoughts are that they're calling us consistent? Kinda don't see how that's particularly a bad thing.

From their perspective it's the idea that we shouldn't be getting praise for just doing what we're meant to be doing which is some what fair enough, but by that same token looking at Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool's main issues over the past few years have been there... well... consistency. Arsenal are on a downward spiral. Chelsea are the definition of a rollercoaster and Liverpool have been a little bit hit or miss (hitting this season).

From our perspective (or mine at least) I'm happy with the consistency. Many of us seemed to expect this season to be a downer with the Wembley move and all but we've managed to make that have very little impact on our results so I'm happy with it.

Ah, yes, the old 'Spurs can only profit from another team's failings' - of course.

Does that mean Liverpool have profited from us residing at a temporary stadium, then? Nope, thought not. That would be consistent with their reasoning.

There’s still a lot to be decided yet before we can really mark this season. If we win the FA cup and finish in the top 4 with automatic CL qualification then it goes down as our best season, probably on par with last seasons 2nd that stats read our greatest points tally and deficit since the epl.

It’s still mightily dicey for both Liverpool and Spurs ie Liverpool could still get knocked out of the CL and finish below us, Harry Kane winning the golden boot just to round it all off or they could finish 2, win the CL, Salah gets golden boot then they’ve had the best season... even ahead of Man City.

I’d love for us to win the The FA cup. It would be such a valuable experience for all at our club.

If we have even a mediocre end to the season, we'll qualify for the Champions League and have our second-highest points total in the Premier League era, despite the move to Wembley. I think the vast majority of us would've taken that before the season started.

If you're asking in the context of the start of the season, then we have vastly over achieved based on where everyone thought we'd finish whilst effectively playing all our matches away from home.
However, in the context of the unreasonable expectation that arose as a result of us beating Madrid and Dortmund then I can see his point.

I don't know why people try to over analyse things like this, at the end of the day if we finish higher than 6th we've over-achieve based on resources and wage bill regardless of how other teams have performed, none of this we should be finishing top four blah blah, 6th should be our limit, it's not our fault if other teams don't manage themselves properly.

If every team finished where they should then it would make the whole thing a boring waste of time. The beauty of sport is that upsets do occur, teams do over and under achieve, and there is a random element of chance....... that's what makes it fun!

Exactly, you can only compete against what you're up against.
There'll rarely be a season where one or two of the other top six don't underachieve, last season it was Arsenal and Utd, this season is its Arsenal and hopefully Chelsea....this is where our consistency is pays off.
