Yeah. But Levy wants to buy players at 2015 prices and sell them for current ones. I wouldn't deal with someone like that.
Its shame we arent willing to pay 2016 prices, as we paid £30million+ for sissoko back then

What's depressing is that every year we've been utterly dismissed by everyone.
This year, with a couple of astute signings, I reckon we'd have had a lot of the media backing us at least for a top 4 place and rival fans more worried about us than ever. (apart from Lolerpool because they literally have no fucking idea)

But instead, we do nothing meaning they will, again, absolutely write us off. And this time it'll be hard to prove them wrong (IMO)

Yes and no. It would be nice to have teams scared of us before they play us. It would be nice to be able to say we have, through bloody hard work and results, earned the respect of our peers and the media at long last.
But we're throwing that down the pisser. We'll probably come 7th this year.

Sounds like you just want to be able to talk the talk with your mates ahead of the season. It's what we do on the pitch that matters and we're still competitive with our recent rivals, they've hardly bought anyone that would strenghten our first XI.
From what I hear on podcasts we're still expected to get top 4 ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal. So I'm not sure about any lack of respects. They know the quality we got, yes not signed anyone yet, but neither lost anyone.

I try not to talk to other fans, they're icky.

I feel abit sorry for him to be honest, he gets stick from our fans, rival chairman/fans and media. He is a true businessman and runs us like a business and maybe now we are seeing other clubs finally getting used to it.

My heart bleeds.

I, too, am a business man (thought on a vastly smaller scale). And while I, like Daniel Levy, like to get as good a deal as I can, I also want the people I've done business with - especially if I expect to do business with them again - to walk away feeling that they, too, have gotten value - that some need of theirs has been met - and that the experience has been worthwhile.

One gets the feeling that most folks walk away from Daniel Levy feeling they've just been screwed, or at the very least put through the wringer. I've said it countless times over the years, with little to dissuade me, but it seems as though our Dan is top, top drawer when it comes to pounds and pence, but rather less adept when it comes to people. And football, for all it's monetary growth, still retains a far more human element than the world of 'high finance' where he cut his teeth.

I'm not saying this to bash Levy - I think he's been a Godsend for THFC. And, of course, it's pure speculation - I don't know any of this. But I would agree that other clubs might be 'finally getting used to it'. It could well explain why we can't seem to get business done when stretching it out is to our disadvantage.

I am yet to see any prediction that doesn't have Chelsea and Arsenal both outside the CL spots. Even without signings we're being tipped top 4 across the board.

Seriously, what a load of nonsense you've just wrote. Other clubs would never deal with THFC if they felt they were being screwed over each time they made business with us.

I’m with yido1989. It’s business and they all know the game they’re in and that they might need each other in the future. I get the art of the deal theory says make everyone feel good in any deal but the chairmen all know they’re swimming with sharks.

I’ve negotiated deals at a larger scale than football transfers and I had no qualms squeezing as much as I could from the other side in any way I could (legally of course). Both sides have shareholders to answer to and have to deliver the most value possible. That’s business.

Quite rightly 95% of people on football forums are primarily football fans and not business folk. That means they don’t always appreciate that a) they only get a tiny bit of accurate intel and probably late or what the clubs want to go public and b) the tactics involved in practice, i.e. walking away from deals, using alternatives as bargaining power and leaking misinformation. Unfortunately the combination of the above creates a lot of angst on forums. Anyway, that all helps me sleep better until the deadline. Then I’ll judge the window.

TBH how are we ever going to be competing if we dont handle pressure well

Look at our cup runs, we do when we face weak teams and fall over when we face our first real big hurdle

We need some pressure just so we can get through this experience for the better in the long term imo

We will. Alderweireld, Son and Trippier 2015. Wanyama 2016. Sanchez 2017. Someone we sign will have an impact on the first team. It's far more of a stretch to say they won't than they will.
Got to sign someone first

There's simply not enough time now for Levy to pull all his tricks to force the prices down.
We've royally screwed up our homecoming.
If results aren't great in the new stadium then there will also be the inevitable accusations that there's some kind of evil hoodoo hex on us.
