The current state of affairs:

Lloris Gazzaniga Vorm
Trippier Aurier Walker-Peters
Alderweireld Foyth
Vertonghen Sanchez
Rose Davies
Winks Dier Skipp
Sissoko Wanyama
Eriksen Lamela
Dele Nkoudou
Son Lucas Sterling
Kane Llorente

The only glaring hole is that with just four experienced specialist CMs, having one as Wanyama with his fitness issues is a bit thin.

If you consider some players can play in multiple positions we are even stronger than you make out. For example in a 4-3-3

GK - 1 from Lloris, Gazzaniga, Vorm
RB - 1 from Trippier, Aurier, KWP
LB - 1 from Rose, Davies, KWP
CB - 2 from Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth, Dier, Davies
CM - 3 from Sissoko, Wanyama, Winks, Dier, Dele, Eriksen, Skipp, Lamela
Attackers - 3 from Kane, Llorente, Dele, Lamela, Moura, Son, Sterling, N'Koudou

We pretty much have 3x depth for every position

Out of that lot so far this season we have lost all but seven of them and of that seven two are goalies and two are academy players. I think our strength in depth has been tested to it's limit this season and actually proved those experts wrong.

Whoa there Nelly, let’s not go overboard.....

Yeah - I agree...I popped over to Rawk yesterday to see their reaction to our last minute winner.

I don’t think they will ever get over the 2-2 draw at their place last season. They really hate Kane and Alli.

Some pretty bitter stuff on Kane’s injury.

There was a comment about our growing injury list that went something like ‘good, maybe they’ll fuck off back to mid table where they belong’

It’s very noticeable how the Liverpool fans on social media have shut up about Kane and Dele’s supposed diving since Salah has come into criticism. He’s turned into a regular cheat nowadays and their fans are hating the shit he’s getting from other fans and pundits. At least there was contact with Lamela’s penalty, Salah has been shot in the back several times in the last few matches, it’s amazing he’s still alive and well enough to play football.

My concern here is the quality of the depth. We have a deep squad in terms of numbers, but are many of those good options?

We've three right-backs, for example, but not one of them is on the level of Kyle Walker (who himself isn't enjoying a great season at City).

Skipp is obviously very raw, as is Sterling, and the jury is very much out on Llorente.

N'Koudou would take a Sissoko-level miracle to play his way back into this team, even with his assist the other day being taken into account, and Lamela is his gloriously inconsistent self.

This is where the issue lies. There's a dearth of quality - not necessarily world class players, or even great ones - in many areas of the squad, and that's without taking into account the holes in our midfield that you mentioned.

EDIT: Apologies, realise this isn't the thread for this. Don't want to derail.

I know, it's ridiculous. The shite i hear Sky talking about how our lack of depth is hurting us with our top 3 players out. Well, turn that around, what if Liverpool lost Ferminho, Salah and Mane or Utd lost Pogba, Rashford and Lingard. Man city are pobly the only team that could cope and even they would find it tough with their top 3 players gone.

They fell apart after losing Fernandinho, we deserve credit for keeping pretty goddam consistent despite injuries.

to be honest N'Koudou has never really been given a chance. most probably his own fault due to not putting the graft in in training, but Sissoko had plenty of matches till he realised he was actually a footballer

Early snippets from the Shed End regarding the semi final 2nd leg:

"Perhaps we will show the same urgency that Arsenal showed against us. The spirit we had against Man City if applied here should see us through and lay down a marker for the league game."

"Re the spirit against Man City, if they had Kane and Son I would agree, not so sure now. We do have a good chance despite having to recover a goal as Spurs only have two days to prepare."

"The game is on Thursday right? That means they still have 4 days to prepare. "

"We are definitely well overdue a good dose of luck. "

"If we cannot beat them with 3 of their best attacking players out then I dont know what we can say about that. "

"Can we honestly see us scoring at least two goals? I can't, even with a depleted Spurs team, they will be to quick and hungrey for our lot. Also we will concede so may need three!!! "

"Don't think we could ask for more luck than facing a Sp*rs side with no Kane, Ali and Son. "

"Even if Spuds have players missing we will still need to show more intensity. We look so pedestrian at times and impotent in the final third. Having good players is one thing being a good team is another. "

"They are missing some key players, but to balance it out we are playing sh*t. I just have no optimism going into games with Spurs these days. They seem to have finally turned the hoodoo around."

"Kane - out. Alli - out. Son - out. Sissoko - out. Moura - out? One hell of a chance to go through if they can get their heads right. "

"Lets show no mercy and put this small club from North London back in our shadow where they belong. Once we do that we can look forward to a nice easy final against Burton

"

"I thought we would beat Arsenal yet it all went wrong now think we will knock out Spurs. Can't see us non-performing for two matches against big rivals in succession."

"We are fortunate that Spurs are missing some key players but they are still a decent team, and have the key advantage from the first leg. It is vital that we attack from the start and score first I think. I will be worried if we start with false 9 again. If we don't have a new striker by then (which looks increasingly likely to be the case) we should start with Giroud. "

Optimistic rating there mate - on Twitter on Saturday Salah’s dive was getting posted everywhere - and all I saw in reply and on Facebook was Liverpool twats replying with “why don’t you talk about Kane and Alli diving?”.

Kane even got belters from Pool fans the other week when he got pole-axed so hard he nearly ended up out of the fucking stadium. They were still accusing him of diving!
