Has anyone else noticed a quite stark affinity, or at least a symmetry, between Arsenal and Man Utd?

15-20 years ago the two clubs were the top two in the country, both coached to great success by long-serving patriarchal managers. Since then both have been taken over by remote American owners who are despised by fans for exploiting the clubs for financial gain instead of investing for sporting success.

Arsenal and Man Utd are two of the three historic clubs of English football, along with Liverpool. Three new interlopers have joined the fray, seeing both Arsenal and Utd surpassed on the field by their local rivals.

Both clubs have struggled in different ways to deal with the consequences of the success and longevity of their patriarchs. Both clubs feel that their historic identities have been seized and sucked dry by foreign investors incompatible with the traditions of the club. Both clubs are indignant that their rivals, whom they considered insignificant not too long ago, are now better than them. Both sets of fans are divided, restless and fear that the superlative history of their club is being inexorably lost into the ether of the global corporate space.

Arsenal and Man Utd have a lot in common, it's just a difference of scale. Someone should write a book about that. [/q]

Jesus!! Is this not proof of what a bunch of deluded bellends goons are? "One of three historical clubs in English football" ?!!!! These types of statement really piss me off, just as the constant reminders of how fucking great Fergie was or the relentless cock sucking of Liverpool, as if football never existed outside of these clubs' successful periods!!! It drives me fucking bananas!!!?

I'm surprised Sky give Liverpool such credence, they've never won a PL title and Sky believe footbl never existed before the PL was introduced.

It's difficult to argue that the Scum, Manure and Liverplop aren't the three best-supported and most successful clubs in English football, going back a long way.

What's that got to do with history? Our history stretches much further back than thise three clubs and we've achieved many more 'firsts' than them.

Look at this snippet from Sky this morning ..

'The third-round draw for the Carabao Cup will take place live on EFL Matters on Thursday night, from 7pm on Sky Sports Football.

Joleon Lescott and David Seaman will join David Prutton to do the draw on the regular EFL weekly talk show, which will see Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal go into the hat along with the 25 clubs who win their second-round ties
'

They have 'forgotten' to mention Man City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Burnley. What a surprise !

And done fuck all since sadly.

History is important - but there are far less known clubs than us in 2018 that have won more league titles and even more European titles.

Look at Villa - 7 titles, 7 FA Cups, 5 League cups, a European cup and a European super cup.
Are they always trying to make out like they're as big as United, Liverpool and Arsenal because history says they're big?

My neighbour popped in for the second half and she is a Spurs fan.
My word I know they are inclined to be pessimistic but she takes the biscuit, shouting at the tv whenever Utd approached the Spurs goal and this was at 2-0!
Lord help her if they are going for the title and have a close game in the run in,she'll need a pacemaker!

I need to find and marry this woman.

Some funny reactions on Bluemoon:

Not even Tottenham can bottle this

I went up to Old Trafford. Even I was panicking for long spells after being 2 0 up. Moura's mugging off the defender and keeper for 3 0 was absolutely amazing though.

English clubs had a bad reputation before that liverpool were just the pinnacle.

Funnily enough I witnessed a lot of this on my trips Holland, Germany, Belgium and even Ireland when following Spurs

Firstly, you've perfectly emphasised my point! Secondly, not I, nor anyone else is trying to say we are as big, or bigger than those three.

I thought our away support was pretty confident to sing "you're f--kin shiiit" a good 20 minutes from time.
Nothing sacred anymore.
