We play with the Roma of England, the possibilities are there

My opinion but I think we are better than Roma. We're a bit more like an aspiring Atletico Madrid on the balance of things. I won't blame this fan for not sharing my opinion of following us closely obviously though.

Think the Roma comparison is very fair. Their last trophy came in the same season as ours (07-08), but like us they've also been top 2/3 regulars in their domestic league for the last few seasons. The overall honours list is pretty similar too - they have three league titles to our two, they have 9 Coppa Italias to our 8 FA Cups. We have the edge on them in total European trophies, however our last was in 1984 and they've played in two finals since then as well as reaching the CL semis last year.

Atletico? I doubt you'll find many who see us on their level....

Pussy lottery. No ball on. Crashed all season. Nice 30 million and 6 free earwashings. : clap:: clap:: clap:I would have preferred to play Group Stage EL sportingly.

Is that some new variant of Russian Roulette?

I said we were aspiring to be like them, though perhaps I didn't say so in clear terms, my apologies.

I fully agree that we are not on their level. They're a great club in many ways. Bit of a nutty manager but I see a lot of similarities between us and them. They are who we want to be as our 'next step'. We definitely aren't at that level at the moment. Hopefully we will be.

Roma are not miles behind us, but I feel some of the comparisons in that post are a little bit historical. I'm going more on form, players, ability, potential etc based on the last year or 2. I do think in a present day situation, we are more towards being better than them than being similar to them.

Some more from Barca:

We are fucked.
I predict Europa league for us. People bash Serie A but our record against Italian teams is average especially in Italy.

I see Spurs beating us at Wembley and drawing at the Nou.
This will be the end of the line for Valverde and some of the seniors.

Meh, group of death. We will probably top the group but easier matches would have been nice.

I think the draw totally sucks for the other 3. Best group overall.

Spurs are very good, but they ain't Barca. They also aren't going to play in their true home stadium yet and have a much more intense slate of September matches.
However Valverde MUST give an off day to Messi, Busquets, Suarez, Coutinho, Alba, Roberto & Rakitic across the Girona or Leganes affairs, and some rotation vs Bilbao.

I expect Barca 1, Spurs 2. Inter has some talent but is a mess and PSV has no shot in this group.

I don't think Barca having easier groups has helped them.

were not fucked though, we have a great shot at winning this years CL. PSG and Liverpool are the most dangerous for Barca but City/Bayern/Madrid are there for the taking

Surely trolling?

This is the best case scenario, imo. Not for any reason I've seen listed here, but because I don't believe Valverde is capable of beating these teams, and the board will have no choice but to do something when it becomes clear we're going to struggle to make the round of 16.

Depending on when we play spurs they might have only played a few games or even one at their new home so it will be almost like a neutral ground. Teams always have a settling in period to their new stadium

Hard group, I like it

Generally a lot of acknowledgement that the group as a whole is tricky. They don't like how they're being run at the moment. (To be fair, they seemed a little less fluid than their usual selves last year in the CL).

I bet when we drew Madrid last season a few of us were gobbing off about how they were overrated and they "had a feeling" we'd spank them. OK, we DID spank them but any neutral observer would've though we were a bunch of biased idiots saying that about the two time consecutive reigning champions with the all time top CL scorer.

Wherever there are football fans bias and bollocks are rife.

From wfcforums.com (Watford fans)

I'll take any result as long as we go for it and try to win rather than playing for a draw or collateral damage

Hmm... yes - ish. But we took on Man City at their own game last year (under Snake) and the score ended 0 - 6, which is a bit much.
Yes, I know they were actually lucky, but ouch.

I'm going for a hard-fought 1-1 draw but Spurs invariably beat us. Kane will no doubt score just to rub salt into the wound.

Who is that Spurs numpty who always gloats when they win? Cue him again sigh.
Does anyone want to own up to being 'that Spurs numpty'?

God i would love to beat these lot but I do feel our good start may come to an end. A draw would be a decent result

I've had that same feeling about Burnley away, Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal at home....and been delightfully wrong recently. It's only Spurts and Citeh that we have not beaten since our "return" to the top league. There's always a first time - and it's getting increasingly likely that we'll give a few of the top 6 a beating each season.

Wonder if he will switch formations and pack the midfield or be brave, stick with 4-4-2 and just go for it ?

I would hope he'll go with two up top, at least in the first instance; but he has already shown flexibility and will change systems on the spot during a game. This is good. If the game starts to get out of hand (and Spurs are far and away better than anybody else we've played this season) he will probably have a Plan B. I don't want this to sound negative and I'm expecting an exciting game, but Spurs' attack will probably not miss the sort of chances we gave Palace the other day.

Not an opposing fan as such but when asked about our chants of ‘you’re not special anymore’ at his press conference going on now, Mourinho responded ‘they weren’t singing that when we beat them at Wembley 2 months ago’ and something like ‘they wanted to win that title (FA Cup) because they don’t win much’.

He’s been thinking about that one hasn’t he. He probably asked the reporter beforehand to ask that question about what he thought about the chant.

Why would Kane scoring rub salt into the wound?

Never thought I’d see the day when some Barca fans are pessimistic about playing us.

Why would Kane scoring rub salt into the wound?

He got all the Watford fans wives and girlfriends preggers and kicked all their cats and called them feck off.
That's what I was told anyway ?
Might have been a little exaggerated I guess.
