There is a thread on FTL talking about quite a lot of trouble after the match. City fans waiting outside (Maybe that's what he means by Grey Mar Lane?), Police unprepared, City fans attacking men, women and children.

One post:
They were there but they were massively caught by surprise by the numbers city had and the fact that they were really wanting to attack us. As we came out of the away end we were pretty much ambushed. As we walked further along the road the situation got worse as the city fans were trying hard to break through the police. We were in-between a them and a fence and had they broke through we were in the shit to be honest. We managed to get out of the bottle neck eventually but the atmosphere was really toxic everywhere.

Back in the station it all kicked off again.

City fans were scum, they were targeting anything they could get to and it didn't matter if you had no interest in fighting them or not.

I think our fans will remember today when they come to WHL.

Tool my lad to his first Spurs game yesterday - he's 7. Couldn't get in the away end so got 2 gen sale tickets together in the city end.

My observations:

Their fans absolutely hate us. The amount of venom from them about us being a little club who've never won anything was astounding. The fact that the only reason they are where they are is because of corrupt massive investment they totally ignore.

They hate Harry Kane. The amount of people calling him a spastic, mong etc was disgusting.

They think they're owed something. Now I hate Liverpool, but seriously after sitting in their end yesterday I hate city more. Plus their fans are awful in terms of atmosphere.

That said they were all saying how good they thought KWP played and what a great future he has.

When they scored at the end we went so we could get back to the station. Heard shit loads of sirens so guessed it was kicking off. Didn't realise it had been ruled out because of VAR until I checked on the train!

Really glad we left just before the end and my lad didn't have to see any violence though.

All in all a really huge point for us.

I went down with my uncle and another mate. We went into a City pub for a few beers before the game and everyone was really friendly. Everyone we spoke to thought they'd win by at least 3 goals tho.

As we were leaving all the trouble was kicking off. They were royally pissed off and causing aggro with anyone coming out of the away end. Police couldn't do anything about it. There were nowhere near enough of them.

Their fans were shit tho. No noise. Heard them singing two or three times the whole game. Only really after they scored.

I realized this when I saw a fancam from their home leg in the CL. Fucking atrocious. "Supporters" :X3:

Yeah I’m enjoying their bitterness. Hopefully uefa do actually ban them from the champions league next season. Will be funny.

It would be more than funny as the'd have to do something to keep in line (or pretend to) with ffp.

The title is essentially, "it's not our fault that Spurs fans were set upon yesterday, it's the fault of VAR".

To be fair, the thread is 50% a debate on VAR and there are some sensible one's in there talking down the nutters, but there are still nutters like the OP essentially saying "serves them right".

On the subject though; the Police are gonna need a recruitment drive just to cover weekends. It might just be that the mentality of the City fans (victim complex bordering on Liverpool levels) has seen a bigger reaction than would happen at other clubs. However, there are plenty of low IQ man babies at every club who are gonna cause trouble and the police need to already start thinking ahead.

Some of the posts are incredible. Corruption, conspiracy, giving up the game, ruining football, they deserved a slap etc etc.

And it was the correct decision. It did hit the player's hand and the goal was disallowed in accordance with the rules of the game.

If you can't go to a game without assaulting someone, perhaps going outside isn't for you. There's no conspiracy. There are the rules and a decision based on those rules. Perhaps the players should play within those rules. They had goals disallowed before VAR and VAR disallowed a goal last week too. The lack of awareness and sense of new-found entitlement from most in that thread is astounding. 'but we'll still win the league and it'll be even better when we do..' why? because goals scored through fouls have been disallowed correctly and you're upset about it? pff.

But yes, if some fans are going to be idiots then there will have to be heavier policing and that'll be a shame for those who just want to watch the match.

There can be no excuse for missing so many chances

I know they had so many chances but only remember Lloris making 2 tidy saves that was in need of saving, the rest went straight at him. I'm annoyed he never threw anything at the sterling effort. only needed to dive to his left a fraction and Sterling doesn't score

FWIW I've always been of the opinion that gaining an advantage from a handball, deliberate or not should be a consideration in the game. The problem is that there are so many nuances to every situation that a blanket rule is always going to cause upset.

IMO it's a murky area which can really only be judged on a case by case system. We could really do with a similar system to Cricket and Rugby where the conversation being had by the umpires/referees with the the VAR team is heard by the supporters.

Were it not for the ball hitting Rodrigo's arm the ball would have run through to N'Dombele and Jesus wouldn't have got near it. Now if the touch on his arm not significantly diverted the ball, I'd have said it was a goal.

As for how Lamela got away with that first half rugby tackle, it's a mystery.

The rule is strightforward. Any goal scored or created with the use of the hand or arm will be disallowed this season, even if it is accidental.

It touched his arm, they scored. Disallowed. Doesn't matter if it deflected or not. It hit his arm.

All post made by the same City fan that was at the u23 match at the Lane the other night.

Losing 1-0. Parrot (the so-called 'next Harry Kane' but has the speed of Corradi) for Spurs in 35th minute. Very good turn and strike to the far post, to be fair.

Poor, niggly game of few chances. I think that was the first shot on target.

2-0. Didn't see the second as I was having a couple of beers. Told by a steward it was just before half-time. The queues here are really bad Even for a friendly

Blatant pen. Stupid challenge by, I think, Dionkou (sp?) .Spurs winning 3-0. Good pen by Parrot. The Spurs fans will get giddy about him but he won't be a decent PL striker as long as I have a hole in my arse.

Basically, three shots on target, three goals.

Spurs have not been good. We have been very poor though. Yes, we are light in midfield but our players have not performed well.

3-0. On 49. sounds like a bit of a pasting!
Not really. Two poor teams. We have had as many chances, to be honest.

Spurs are very functional with little pace. The back four of Spurs and Parrot have been their best players. Honestly think our u18s from last year would have beaten them.
