And Ozil who has spent largely looking like one of the worst signings they made, has all of a sudden turned it around and looks really dangerous now

Lamela & Dembele similar turn of forms...of course not as same as Ozil. Sanchez has been quieter though. Hope he continues that way

7 assists and 1 goal in the last 5 games in phenomenal. He and Sanchez are a big worry for our team IMO.

Flat track bully Ozil :poop:. Dominates weaklings and disappears against big boys. Long may it continue.

Not sure I'm that happy about the result last night, would much rather more energy spent by Arsenal and a closer game.

They'll be more up for making amends, making an already tough game, even tougher now.

Is anyone else still really not used to everyone saying how good defensively we are? Feels strange :D

Also makes it seem like we're destined to concede 5 on Sunday now :ROFLMAO:

I hate the NLD , it makes me ill. I'm never comfortable. Even the 5-1 I was convinced we'd fuck it up. Gonna get blind drunk all weekend & sky plus the game so if it's a cracker I can watch it over & over.

Arsenal will be hurting and up for making amends. If they can beat us the fans won't care about the Bayern result, so its a dangerous situation.

We just need to keep our heads though, they're not at full strength and if we can keep Özil quiet and Sanchez, then we have a really good shout at getting a positive result. We need to press and rather than always track inside, I would like to see some crosses put into the box as Arsenal looked clueless on how to defend against a ball put into the middle that wasn't on the floor.

They'll have their moments, they will probably even score, but I am confident we have he ability to get a result, a win even, but its going to be a really tough game.

The worrying thing is, if we keep the human bug quiet, they've still got a couple of other talented forwards that are more than capable.

Do his eyes actually move independently of each other, or does that just happen in my head?!

No matter what happened last night people will look for the negative interpretation lol.

If Arsenal had won 1-0 last night but had to work hard for it, the same people claiming they're hurting now making them more dangerous would be talking about how much confidence that would of given them by beating one of the best sides in the world making the NLD an even tougher affair.

I always think Arsenal, when they get on a run, can be hard to play against. But when they suffer a set back it can knock their fragile confidence.

That's just me though. Might not have any bearing for Sunday - its a derby after all.

everyone knows derby days are different, form counts for nothing and anything can happen (red cards, etc).

just have to hope for the best and the players believe they can win. we need to score first though as not sure we'd do too well chasing the game against their counter attacking.

I found the Spurs vs Villa chat fascinating yesterday, and out of interest decided to compare the fortunes of the two clubs since their golden years ended almost 100 years ago.

The last of these trophies came in 1920. In the purposes of fairness I will exclude our FA Cup win in 1921, as it is essentially from the same era. In fact the next title for either was our league win 30 years later.

The biggest claim Villa have over us is their superior number of league titles. In fact if you take out the early days where none of the big boys were really knocking about, they are left with just a solitary title in 1981. Clearly we all know about our two in 51 and 61.

In this time they also have a single FA Cup triumph (1957) to our 6 (1961, 1962, 1967, 1981, 1982, 1991).

Clearly we can't match their European Cup win and subsequent Super Cup success in 1982. However we do have a Cup Winner's Cup (1963) and two UEFA Cups (1972, 1984).

They have 5 League Cups to our 4, and 1 Community Shield to our 6 over the same period.

Overall in terms of major trophies since 1921 we have Aston Villa 10, Tottenham Hotspur 21.

And of course it would be very immature of me to point out that I also saw a Third Division Title listed amongst their successes...

Ha it's an utterly ludicrous table which doesn't differentiate between the four different divisions in their various incarnations over the years, nor even feature the Southern League teams from the turn of the last century when that league was a credible rival to the football league.
To make an easy mockery of the table, edit the years to those since the PL began. Both Spurs and Villa have spent every year since in the top flight - in that table we sit in the 40s and Villa about 74th.

It's bloody unfair and unrealistic to start from 1921. Our league titles in 51 and 61 have just as much relevance today as anything they won before 1921.

Arse fans already talking about how depleted they are injury wise. Lining up the excuses!

But they are !

If we stick to a good game plan and manage to keep them at bay for say 70 minutes, we will have a fair chance to win the game in the last 20 of playing time. Poch will also have a better bench than Arsene to turn to and that may well be the time to nick it.

Just an interesting comparison. However I do feel like Villa's is somewhat less impressive given prior to 1920 none of the big boys were really about and the majority of titles went to Preston, Villa and the now-defunct Wanderers. So they have a large spell of success in that era, and one very impressive team in the 80s. Whereas we have sustained success over 6 post-war decades in a period where football as a whole was far more competitive, with far more thought put into tactics and preparation. The introduction of European football also brought about a far higher standard.
