Can't quite put my finger on it but it feels like something is missing.

Aside from Leicester being cobbled on, this is just the same as last year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before...

Seemingly, finishing consistently below us does no harm to the Mickey's title chances :)

Because they always do. They are always part of the big 4, or maybe 5, or even 6 or possibly even 7 or 8 (depending on where they finish). We however never make the big 5 even when we finish 3rd. Still I kinda quite like that.

Also bookies know there market, they must make a packet on all the scousers putting their benefits on Liverpool to win the title every year

In all seriousness, I believe that once folk consider a state of affairs to be the norm they really can't adjust their thinking when circumstances change. In this instance, Liverpool dominated English football, and then kept themselves in the frame for a good while even when United had taken over the mantle, that they just do see Liverpool FA as being synonymous with a title challenge. No dose of reality will impede upon this belief.

By the same token, even when we were half good we were recognised more as a cup team (and they were far more prestigious back then). And then we had a total eclipse thanks to the shenanigans of a certain Mr Scholar. So now folk, including a good many Spurs fans, just cannot see how much things have changed with us, no matter how much evidence is put before their eyes. It is what you see in the Mickey comments, from RAWK primarily (which may be instructive) - never been this, always been that (just to refer back to a post of actual sayings by oppos fans and keep it vaguely on topic).

Whats's the point of being a fan if you don't believe in your team?

I expect nothing less from any real fans......

Believing in your team and being completely deluded, isn't the same though. I believe in Spurs, and believe we have a good chance of finishing in the top 4 again this season, and I base this on our relative success last season, and keeping the core of the team together.

When we finished 6th under Sherwood, I still believed in Spurs, but claiming that we were in with a shout at the title the following season would be completely deluded. Something that seems to continually be the belief of a lot of 'Pool fans.

Believing in your team is one thing... but Liverpool fans really are a different breed. I don't think it's simple delusion though. It seems that most, when watching a game can't appreciate good play from the opposition.

They're the kind of fans that if your team put a 60 pass move together against them, resulting in a goal, they'd explain it away by claiming that you got lucky on the 5th pass into the move.

It's not the fact they believe in their team, it's the fact they're completely writing us off and seem to not think we are competition on the march to the title despite us finishing above them all the time.

To be fair they do have a world class manager who has continued to mold the squad in his image and are coming of the back of an appearance in a European final. The league is wide open this year and they will have greater continuity than most of the other teams vying for places at the top of the table. I'm not saying that I think they'll win the title but to think they'll be in contention is not completely insane.

I get that and I feel that they're living on their past success but what else do they have? They blow money on players like crazy and the only way I can describe that club is trail and error...

Well the thing is as much as I love Spurs we always seem to mess things up when things are going good for us. We really should have won the league last season and I can think of countless times when we've had the chance and screwed it up. I'm not the only one to see this and surely fans from other clubs can see that. Remember "mind the gap?"

I have a good feeling about the direction the club is going but at the same time have that feeling that we can always screw it up

I maybe missing something here but Liverpool have a poor GK, LB, average centre backs, okish midfielders and a decent attack. If Klopp gets them in the top 6 it would be a success, if they finish any higher I would be amazed.

Man for man they are nowhere near as good as any of the other 'challengers'. You have to be drunk or stupid (or both) to think that they will be anywhere near the top 4.

They may not look all that good on paper man-for-man, but it's the team that counts. How many of Leicester's players from last season would get into other contending teams? We all know the answer to that: three (possibly). A team can, and should, be greater than the sum of its parts. That's the danger with Liverpool.

Except they haven't shown that at all. Even under Klopp they were weak at the back and at GK. Moreno was atrocious at LB and they haven't at all addressed it.

I agree that on paper their team looks the weakest out of the contenders, but no Europe and klopp makes them very dangerous. As much as we all like to ridicule Liverpool (I love it), on their day they're very dangerous. VERY.
I think with the lack of Europe they could also play at consistently high level. Still think chelsea will win due to the same two factors, with the added benefit of having a better team, but you never know.
