I don't buy the myth that they would of finished second, its just not true. Their form this year has not been all that good. If measuring performance since January they finish 4th, defensive capacity or not they have some kind of fragility to them, there is a reason they tried their absolute best to get knocked out by Roma.

I mean Liverpool could win the PL next season because on their day they are explosive and can be incredible. But so could we. There very little to suggest Liverpool are in a long term better position than we are. Apart from being in a champions league final, though cup competitions have always been poor indicators of long term success.

ts not even about the final furlong as you put it, its just you can recognize the success of a team without winning trophies but we are competitive in every competition we get into. There can only be one winner in these competitions thats just how it is. Its not a failure not to win them.
Surprised the media havent said something similar about Liverpool finishing 2nd. Theres a undertone vibe on TS like they did finish 2nd, I said as much to my bro who is a Liverpool fan just yesterday. Probably due to CL final.
Christ I hope RM win but not optimistic about it.

Not so much a story of what the pundits are saying, but I was catching up on sky's "match of the day" where they play the whole match (Leicester)
The commentator says "with Tottenham losing (1-2) and Liverpool currently winning, Tottenham will be 4th and have to qualify for the champions league"
Then goes on to say "it's not ideal finishing 4th and having to start the season early to qualify for the champions league"

So not only did the dipshit not know 4th doesn't need a qualifier, but he also didn't know imaginary qualifier would be after the PL season begins. The Nophoper preliminary rounds, where West ham usually go out, start before the PL season.

And the other commentator didn't bother chiming in to correct him.

I just can't listen to any of them about anything anymore. Most of them clearly know less a out football than the people that have to listen to them.

I just think Sky is very dated, same old faces year after year spouting the same old shit!!! Don’t listen to the pundits guff anymore, just switch on to the match. (Gotta deal with the commentary but hey! You can’t have everything)!!!

very few do any research to stay up to date with the game. The Soccer Saturday panel repeat tabloid nonsense as fact, most commentators only know what is on their fact sheet and the same themes are trotted out year after year whether they are current or not. Neville and Carragher on MNF was often really good because they did make an effort, but they are the exception.

Yep, the MNF programme is good because they have all day to work on it on a Monday. You could say soccer Saturday has all week to work on it, which is even worse. They just need to get rid of all the panelists and Stelling and change the programme up a bit. It’s all too matey. I’d get people on there like Rosenior, Mason, Bellamy etc (and a female footballer like BT do) who they use on other programmes who actually sound like they know what they are talking about. It wouldn’t be difficult to improve on it.

Problem there is that it’s exactly what BT do and having watched both I have to admit that prefer the Soccer Saturday version.

Not sure if it’s the main presenter or the over the top reactions but it all flows much better and feels far more engaging on SS

I know what you meant about the bt one, it does seem a bit stop start at times. For soccer Saturday, all they need to do is refresh the panel to begin with. I can’t imagine the current four are an actual pull for viewers.

Yeah I'm not sure what would be best, BT can have a casualness about it that can sometimes have it feeling a bit annoying. I normally prefer professional over a little bit ladish, matey and over the top like BT can sometimes be, even if the former is a bit more mundane. It's why I generally prefer Sky Sports to BT Sports.

I don't have a problem with all the panellists or Jeff Stelling really but I think if they have a Bellamy, Rosenior or Mason type character on there every week to give what I would say a better perspective on certain talking points it would be much more worth watching. Get rid of Charlie Nicholas for a start that's for sure.

Kinda reminds me of Clarksonian Top Gear Vs Fifth Gear. They act like morons and don't tell us anything useful on Top Gear, the guys (and VBH) on Fifth Gear test real cars and they have real drivers, but my word is it dull. I don't really care how practical a Honda Jazz is, nor do I care about the throttle balance of a Zonda. I just want POWERRRRRRRR.

Talking of useless crap. BBC Commentator during the FA Cup Final "chelsea become the first team to win the FA cup a the season after losing in the final............since 2004"

So what? It's not a new record nor is it even an interesting record. Utterly pointless fact to keep talking.

As my other half often says, "made up stats". She's only ever half-paying attention to the football I'm watching and yet she feels compelled to shout out "Made Up Stats!" about every 20 minutes in most games. Its every 10 minutes if its a Liverpool game on BT. Since she pointed it out I've realised how common this sort of contrived trivial BS is on the tv coverage. They can't say anything about the tactics so they'll either look for controversy where none exists or make up a stat like, "This is the first time Jose Mourinho has lost a game at Wembley on a Saturday since he purchased those new shoes".

Your example isn't that far fetched. They did say something like "this is the first domestic cup final he has lost in England with an English team"

Like English teams may have domestic cup finals away from England.

Exactly. The Sky lot are all so comfortable in their jobs because it's just one big matey old-boys club so they know they're not going to get sacked or anything so they just turn up on a Saturday having done little or no actual preparation i.e. work and then just watch the game like anyone off the street could, making the same old tired cliches and repeating the tabloid BS. The whole thing needs a real shake-up IMO.

My favorite shit facts are the ones you often get in the FA Cup where they'll say things like:

"Well Kettering will be looking to turn their fortunes around today, having not won at Old Trafford since 1908"

They then fail to mention that they haven't been in the same division as Utd since then and so obviously have never played them, rendering it a completely pointless fact.

On a similar note there's also the ones where they talk about a team's poor record vs another team even though none of the current players for either team were even born at the time when these results happened so it has absolutely fuck all to do with anything.

So happy that Liverpool didn’t win tonight and the fact Bale dis what he did was amazing but the twats on BT sport have not mentioned the fact that we beat Madrid all night. Even at the end when they said who could possibly catch RM next year , they mentioned the 3 other English clubs. They make me sick.
