I don't want to click on the Sun site to give them even a few millicents of advertising revenue, but here's what that luminary Tony Adams had to say over there. Aside from complaining that modern defenders weren't donkey enough, the legendary failed manager and failed human being said notably,

extract:
Adams also fears that England’s core of Tottenham players — who have impressed at club level without lifting a trophy — might not possess the winning mentality needed to succeed at a tournament.

He added: “You must be able to handle winning emotionally and mentally and if they don’t know how to win it, they aren’t going to win it.

“I’m really worried about these Tottenham players, I don’t think they know how to win. They’re very good players but at certain points in seasons and tournaments, you have to step up — there’s a psyche players must have.”
end quotes

I'm struggling to remember how many trophies that born winner lifted during his England tenure. Though there were a good few beds wet, apparently.

Well, surely the Man City players will help, along with some Man United players too, who’ve all won the league. Cahill has a league titles too, as does Welbeck....from his time at United

Maybe he would be happier if England had that perennial big game winner Wilshire in the squad?

England in the past have been filled with 'winners', but we still suck in tournaments. If/when England don't win the WC, it's not because we have a core of Spurs players, it's because we (like 90% of the world) have a heritage of not doing well in the competition.

Adam has a point like it or not. Our English core players haven't won anything at club level and tbh he is painfully right that to win it takes an extra edge / knowhow to get over the line.

It was a cheap shot at Tottenham but what did anyone expect from an Arsenal legend.

I can see what he means, I mean his winning mentality transferred wonderfully to the national team helping us pick up all those trophies during his participation.

Good point. Messy is a multiple winner and hasn't won a world cup.

Adam was cheeky by saying the core which basically is Tottenham I believe we've 5 players potentially in the team.

The first part of your comment is irrelevant because of the second part.(y)

This. 100%.

I for one actually think a team of less experienced players is exactly what England need for a change.

In my lifetime, i've seen some very good England teams (mainly early to mid 90s) who for me weren't necessarily the best teams at the tournaments but over performed thanks to some stand out players and a great team ethic. Dentist chair anyone?

Ever since then, the press allowed the hype to overrule common sense on the squad. Hype turns into pressure and even proven 'winners' struggled under those conditions. Very few top class pros shone in the intervening years (Early 00s to present) IMO.

For me, this change up is needed - not just to lower some of the expectations on the squad but also to begin the long overdue process of integrating and capping younger players. We're lacking a bit of experience but we should gain a bit of fearlessness. I'm not expecting big things this tournament but hoping this England team can simply prove a few cynics wrong and play some fearless football.

It's a pointless dig as Spurs nothing more.

You might as well say take all Spurs players out of the England team then technically England have a better chance of winning the tournament, it's nonsense.

Be far better for me as a Spurs fan …….. also they'll all get stick if we don't do well. Especially Kane and Alli

Our players actually like playing for England, you can tell they thrive on the responsibility that comes with it, seems like I'm in the minority but I want our players to play and do well for the national team because firstly they enjoy it and secondly the experience is only going to help them.

Can't argue with your sentiments.(y) I hope they and England do well too but I realise what the media and other teams' fans will do. They'll just crucify the players for not winning.:( Especially those who make a costly error.
But then read our match day threads and it's no different from our own fans
