The thing is, are the pundits seriously expecting us to win the Champions League this season or even beat Man City (who have spent billions) to the league?

If we did either it would be the greatest achievement in the history of the sport.

Lester is the greatest achievement

Don't think anything else will top that

Pat Nevin said the same thing on the Beeb. Said to take nothing away from us but City are still much better and have beaten a better team, in better form, away, and he expects them to win league and go further than us in CL so we still won’t win anything, so this was effectively one big shop window for Poch and the players

what a massive ****.

what, us winning the Champions League wouldnt be a bigger achievement than Leicester winning the league. Come on man, think about it.

Yes a team with the 4th lowest budget in the entire league winning the Premiership over 38 matches is a faf bigger achievement than us winning the CL over 13 matches which is a knock out competition as well, it's not even debatable.

Well I don't agree. Beating Madrid yesterday is a massive achievement. If we were to draw teams like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, PSG etc in the next rounds and beat them all with their current resources, experience in the competition and history it would be one of the most amazing achievements of all time.

But to bring it back on topic, there'd still be a handful of journalists and pundits complaining that we couldn't do it in the premier league if we achieved the above. Of that there'd be no doubt.

Trophy?

Personally, I think we're going for the Champions League this season.

Like, I actually think this is the priority competition for us considering City's frightening start in the PL.

So the question is, what would you rather win? The Premier League or the Champions League?

Personally I'd rather see Spurs lift the latter, given the choice.

Tough one but if we won the CL then we could end any argument with arsenal fans in a really annoying childish way by just saying

“Yeah but we won the champions league”

It's a cup competition and you don't necessarily have to be the best team in the competition to win it, look at Porto 2004 and Liverpool 2005 for example. Yes it would be a fantastic achievement if we won the trophy but nowhere on the same page as a team like Leicester who won the league because in the league you have to be consistent which is the true hallmark of a winning team, you don't necessarily need to be consistent in a cup comp, luck plays more of apart.

Sort of, but the league format of the group stage does negate that somewhat.

What winds me up about all the pundits coming out of the woodwork now is why has it taken 2 and a bit seasons to finally accept we are a very good side?

Kane was a one season wonder, then a two season wonder, then three, yet now he's the best striker in the world.
No one has ever rated Eriksen as one of the best in the league despite his stats telling a different story.
Every one of our players is genuinely a top class player yet rarely has this been pointed out by any of these idiots.

They are supposed to be experts yet have taken over 100 matches before they recognise we are a top class outfit.
In any other profession if it took you a couple of years to recognise the bloody obvious you'd be out of a job.

Great/unbelievable that we can even debate this without it being ridiculous fantasy that one or both could happen (CL vs PL)

And they are actually really worried about this as well. They would simply not be able to stomach the fact that we'd done what they only ever almost achieved once in all of them years.

Thing is, you know next summer when they come to do their predictions for the league, we'll be back to being placed 5th, 6th by most pundits. They'll be lauding all the big money signings the plastic clubs make and continue to underestimate us.

They're all so stupid that most of them only focus on players, failing to see that the main reason for our success is Pochettino.
