Classy from Hodgson:

70-year-old Hodgson said of Alli: “He only had the option to go down. The way our defenders defend the situation, he had to go down to avoid them. I don’t think he was looking for a penalty.

“(The crowd getting agitated is) what happens when all the talk in the mass media is about players diving: the public jump on the bandwagon to get as much advantage as they can.”

Basically, twats like Lineker need to shut the fuck up with their agenda driven bollocks along with all the screeching scousers who are still crying about us drawing with them.

I am tired of the media in this country and people say “they don’t have any influence so what does it matter?”

They clearly do though, the refs are nervous to give decisions and the crowds get on their back as well because of the bullshit spread in the media.

As a club we need to stand up and say something about it imo.
Despite him being responsible for that shit show in the Euro's, I actually like Hodgson. He certainly tries to keep the talk on the important matters and what happens on the field as opposed to the narrative and any other distracting factors.

The diving one is weird anyway.

Dele has clearly got an eye on winning a penalty (!) but bar stopping and stepping over Hennessey or thundering into him at full pelt, I'm not sure what the other option was...

Clearly the former wasn't going to give us any advantage, so isn't that why people choose to dive these days?

I don't know, I was a centre back in my day. If I went to ground and missed the ball, I'd fully have expeced an attacker to take advantage of that if it disadvantaged them.

In the League Cup game today G Neville noted that Iwobi (I think) got to the ball ahead of Bravo but needed to be smarter and "take the ball away" from Bravo to elicit contact and therefore a penalty.

This is exactly what Dele did today - and what all attackers do and should do.

Dele's mistake was that he started falling before there was any discernible reason too. Because he's too addicted to the easy option. But everything else was proper and correct attacking play in the box. Dele was being shoved from behind and approached by an out of control Hennessy. None of that is mentioned by the hypocrites whining about him beinga "diver" (lol Scouse fans where do you think he learnt it? His idol Gerrard perhaps?)

He wasn't great as England manager but he's always come across as a decent, honourable man.

He has a knack of getting into the penalty area in dangerous positions that then draws a challenge..

Totally agree but his collapsing when there is barely contact makes it harder on a ref to decide what happened. If that was Eriksen at the end of the foul in the penalty area then I reckon ref could have thought about it.

Be like me, don't read 'newspapers' or take notice of pundits. The country is full of mindless sheep, rise above them mate, it's not difficult.(y)

It took me ages to get what you were doing then, ha.

Erm, if it was better, it would mean for the whole list, and I don't accept that all of that list of clubs we've sold to are better than Spurs. Just richer.

Also Liverpool didn't sell Keane to Liverpool.

But aside from that (y)

Linker is a complete ****, I don’t give a shit if he played for us or not, it’s pretty clear he has a problem with us, his reaction to us during the Juve game was pathetic and now he is going on about “Divey Alli”

Funny how he never brought up all of Vardys diving during the Leicester title season but he is happy to shit on a young English talent, especially because he plays for spurs, the agenda in the media is pathetic and completely obvious at this point.

But Dele is "divey". Probably the worst for it in the league at the moment, and the fact he is English is why it is amplified in the media. If he wasn't ours the abuse he'd get on here would be massive.

no doubt Dele needs to cut it out for his own and our sake.

Basically referees are corrupt and act like sheep. They will refuse to give clear penalties and will book players for diving based solely on reputation rather than what their own lying eyes are telling them.

We had this with Bale a few years back. There were a couple of games (sunderland home and stoke away, i think??) where he got taken out at the knees and was booked for diving. No human who has ever lived could have stayed on his feet under those circumstances. Both situations - booking for simulation and a whole bunch or moronic pundits like collymore going on about how he went down "too easily"

if a player dives, then its only right that the ref books him. But if it turns out it was not a dive, the the ref should be made to give a public apology because this is not just about an incorrect decision.....this is a ref publicly calling that player a cheat, which is something that shouldn't but inevitably will impact other refereeing decisions in future games.

Yes the media have an agenda, but dele does go down too easily. He's either trying to win penalties or he's too scared to get clattered.

I maintain Dele Alli is one of, if not the most fouled player in EPL ...I personally feel his not being protected enough by refs.

I don't think the media have a specific anti-Spurs agenda. Every club's fans complain of an agenda against them because they don't like criticism directed at their team. Fact is the Dele is a diver, and some of his dives would make Tom Daley proud.

Having said that, I do think we should have been awarded a penalty. Why? Because even if Dele had not made a meal of it and dived I think there would have been contact anyway. It was a dangerous challenge and whether or not a player has a reputation as a diver is irrelevant. Whether or not he makes a meal of it is irrelevant if it's clear there would still have been contact. That, to my mind, is why the ref got it wrong.

And he’s not doing himself any favours. It’s like he goes out with a checklist. Nutmeg? Check. Attempt to win a penalty? Check.

I don't condone what he's doing at every opportunity, by the seems of it, but he didn't get a penalty for the Van Arnult? challenge earlier and maybe thought he'd get one this time. Just got his timing wrong with the dive.

And Divey Dele is probably costing us points as the ref is now (clearly) less inclined to award the pen as, well, it’s Dele. Even if it looks clear-cut, he may be just getting good at it... seeds of doubt.

Already has been. Didn't get one against Man Utd where Valencia (I think?) just wiped him out. Ref waves play on.
