Wise strikes me as one of those bitter ****s who rembebes you didn’t buy him a pint 20 years ago.

No way is Wrighty a Spurs fan.
I remember him going mental in the studio when we beat them 2-3 at the Emirates. He hated it. I also remember many games where he goaded Spurs fans after scoring, especially in a 1-1 draw at the Lane in the mid 90's. He scored a penalty to level it and stuck his fingers up at the crowd.

I don't know who's suggesting Wrighty is a Spurs fan, but of course that's nonsense. What he is however, is honest about us, our players, our manager and our prospects compared to those of the scum from the Haemorrhoids stadium.

Yes, he often engaged in a bit of banter with the Spurs crowd as a player, but let's be honest, we used to give him some fearful stick too.

Now he's no longer playing, I find his views very refreshing regarding us, even though it might be killing him to be so positive about us, he's not scared to 'big us up' when he feels he should.

Incidentally, he's not a goon, he was a Palace fan as a kid.

I don't think Ian Wright was very much of a football fan at all, maybe Crystal Palace but not a big fan and I very much doubt if he had any family tradition with a club. I think people like us find it hard to grasp that there is a whole population out there whose week is not made wonderful or fucked up by the last weekend's result and I doubt he had any family tradition with a club.
Arsenal is his club because he played for them and, let's be honest, fell in love with them, you can see that when they win and when they lose, their troubles at the moment are hurting him but he never slags off another club to make him feel better.

I'm a Spurs fan and I admit it, I admit that I enjoy listening to Ian Wright.:cautious:

What about Ian Wright and Martin Keown? They are both Arsenal through and through. But they are professional enough to praise Spurs and remain unbiased.
But we played Chelsea, not Arsenal. Different scenario. If it was Arsenal we beat on Sunday instead of his favourite team, would Wise be as scathing of us?

Dennis Wise is only relevant again because of his appearance on I'm a celeb.

Ian Wright has been a pundit for YEARS. Gives credit where it is due and sees it objectively regardless of club. Along with Gary Neville, he's up there for pundits I will listen to.

What sets the likes of Wrighty apart from the likes of Wise is that Dennis Wise is clearly just parroting whatever lazy narrative he's heard/read elsewhere in the media. Therefore, if challenged, he'd struggle to provide a constructive argument to move the discussion forwards in support of his view, because its not really his view. Wright, like Gary Neville, Danny Murphy and Jermaine Jenas, are able to sound much more constructive in their views of a club/player because they are an honest reflection of their own views, and there is much more depth to the opinions they espouse. When people like Wise, Cascarino and Dean Saunders (to name a few) spout their hollow bullshit, you often wonder how much they are actually watching football and forming their own opinions, as opposed to simply talking to others and repeating the cliched views of others.

Chris Sutton is an odd one, in that he talks a lot of rubbish but at least it often sounds like its his rubbish that he's thought about and arrived at after following a lot of games.

Yeah I must say that I do have a lot of time for Wrighty whereas the others just seem to feel obliged to parrot the 'how long can Spurs hold onto.....' line. It's almost like a reflex mechanism.

I feel like he's often trying to provoke a reaction with what he says, whether from fellow pundits or fans. It's sort of like he's being a **** on purpose, but in a more considered way than someone like Wise who just is a **** regardless of what he might try and do. A cock-juggling-thunder-****.

Agree with all of this. Would add that sadly our very own Daveed, pains me as it does to say it, qualifies for the list off narrative spouters.

Conversely, I quite enjoy listening to Ray Parlour. He’s a bit dim but he tries to be objective on the whole and makes more attempt than most to offer reason to support what he says.

Wrighty is just a proper heart on the sleeve person who will have a bit of banter with Spurs fans, but also give credit where credit's due. Absolute travesty that he's not involved with Arsenal in some way. They should be utilising his passion and enthusiasm, mostly probably within their academy. But thankfully it's their loss.

Agree with all of this - huge respect for Wrighty.
