I'm not a violent man, I'd sooner disarm a man with sound reason. That goes out the window with Merson, I would love to punch his face in.

I have to agree. I am always happy to see Souness as he genuinely thinks we are a great team to watch. He believes you need to spend money to win big things and often brings that up but otherwise he's usually very complimentary.

Perhaps as Jamie was there he thought he had to be a little more negative and focus on Fulham's errors not realizing that Jamie always goes somewhat left field in his 'support' (today's Dembele nonsense) for us.
I don't think it's uncomplimentary to mention the need to spend money to win things. We've managed to make a fair amount of progress over the last few seasons, but we still have nothing tangible to show for playing some the best football in England. As people point out every so often on here, the clubs that spend the most are usually the ones that win the most trophies these days. Souness was simply pointing out a fact of life in a ruthless league. Having said that, spending your money wisely is just as important as the amount you spend.

Is it me or does Alan Brazil have a downer on Spurs? It's not that he ever slags us off but he always seems to dwell on the negative aspects of anything to do with Spurs. He always seems really doom and gloom.

I think he's just down in general from having Brazil as his last name but having to grow up in Govan.

Merson predicting defeat in extra time on Thursday. Fucking tool doesn’t realise there is no extra time in the Carabao Cup this year!!!

This is what bothers me about Sky. Their editors clearly have zero knowledge of the competition they’re broadcasting and allow shit like this to be published.

They’re more interested in Merson’s inane ramblings than providing a professional broadcasting service. They need to up their game quite frankly.

Spurs are just a familiar, returning cheap storyline (in his tiny mind) that he can rehash regularily to give him a basis of considered credibility to the great unwashed.

The internet and broadcasting industry is now built on crying wolf and fake news thrills. I now take it all with the proverbial pinch of tons of salt.

Or they just know their audience. I believe the BBC's founding principles were to inform, entertain and educate, to be fair I'm not sure Sky have ever claimed anything like that for themselves.

Yeah, I get your point. I don't normally get annoyed but take this morning for example - it was all about 'arsenal are on a roll, they could catch Spurs...the first half performance against Fulham was not very good (fair point obviously) and all the injury stuff' and it was actually David Seaman who was being fair towards us.

i was at a dinner where Merson was the after dinner speaker. waltzed in 1 min before he was due to talk. spoke for 10 mins (mostly about the hilarious time he took sleeping pills and wine) in barely coherent English, then dashed off again.

so in summary, a complete bell.

Very complimentary piece by Oliver Holt on Spurs in the Mail:

Tottenham are an admirable club the rest should want to emulate

I think he's one of the best football journos. Unlike many others, he doesn't seem to have an agenda, he doesn't deliver hot takes for the sake of it, and from what I understand he enjoys the lower leagues, which I think helps him write with perspective.

For example, he was one of the few pundits (as I recall it) who felt that Rooney swearing after scoring that time was no big deal, because worse is said at games all the time.

Gives a very different meaning to the phrase “punch drunk”. More of an action than a state.

Jamie Redknapp on Soccer AM: “It’s been a great week for Spurs but it’s those Wolves and Manchester United results which have cost them dearly. They are as close as dropping out of the top four to winning the title so all they can do is keep winning. They’ve got the players, but I don’t think they’ve got the strength in depth to challenge City and Liverpool.”
