Some people on this site have said his best at RB,CB and some even think he would be a decent DM
What would you do with him once Hutton is fit? assuming King never fully recovers..
The obvious answer is back-up CB, but does anyone think differently that he could be make the first 11 when we are full strength?
For me if our midfield keeps putting out shite performances i'd give him a punt in the middle why not?

just thought id get some views

i think he is so comfortable on the ball, but also slow, that should defo be part of a 2 man defensive midfield with zokora or ohara. modric the 3rd mid, attacking.

but then i think he should be woodgates main partner in the prem, and use king in the cups. i dunno, i dunno

So saying this we are assuming King will never return to full fitness, yes maybee a very good chance he never be back to a 38 game a year player, so Corluka very well may be used at CB more often than not.

What i was thinking tho even when King is in the team in the cup for example would or could Corluka make first choice in any possition.?
i would be tempted to give him a shot in the DM mid possiton unless our midfield starts to flow abit better

CB &/or DM. Could he play DM alongside O'hara in midfield???? Would that work?

If fully fit I'd probably go with this.

Gomes
Hutton, Woody, King, Bale
Bentley/JJ, Corluka, O'hara, Lennon
Pav/Bent, Campbell

Not much space for new signings but I'd rather have a solid XI & bring on Modric, Gio if needed.

I was thinking back to the lasagne season when I listed the above XI. I think that was one of our best sides - certainly very solid in midfield. I think we sometimes played with Davids on the left & JJ on the right. Not much width but a lot more solid.

He looks very slow as a RB, but classy when passing the ball and decent at tackling. He should be our CB alongside Woody (though they both look quite similar at that position as well, both like to control with the chest, do some turns and things like that). The major problem is that he is cup-tied, but on a league basis I would play him as starting CB with Woody and keep Ledley as a sub and cup player.

If we do get knocked out of the Uefa Cup, we might give Corluka a go at DM on a double pivot role with Zokora. They might cancel each other's limitations: Zokora's fast but lacks composure, Corluka, the slow but classy one. Who knows really.

Hopefully he will prove to be a more than adequate Ledley stand-in at CB, but even more hopefully we will see Ledley in lots of games this season. If that is the case then maybe it would be worth playing Corluka in midfield alongside a faster player. He looks good on the ball and maybe has the intelligence and speed of thought required to use the ball well from deep. Hud may develop this as well, which would make him a very useful player. Maybe for European games where Corluka is cup-tied and Hudd may have a bit more time on the ball.

Firstly some must stop with calling him Corky....

Then he should be played as CB together with Woodgate and build a stong defence that can grove on EVERY game.

I think he should be playing centre back, with Gunter at right back. I was impressed in the Wigan game, he and Woody dealth with the threat well despite a lack of midfield cover.

Im not convinced his best postion is DM, infact I am sure it isn't. However it called potentially be worth trying him there as none of our current midfielders seem to be able to play the DM role effectively.

It seems to me that what someone like Modric needs is a player sittig deep alongside him in defensive midfield and while not doing anything spectacular sweeping up the play behind him and releasing the ball to the more creative players to begin our attacks.

The reaseon the likes of Zokora and O'Hara dont seem to be effective at this is a lack of concentration as well as postional sense/reading of the game. The game ends of by passing them often and they are unable to allow the likes of Modric the freedom of movement to do what they do best and link midfield with attack and really set the tempo of the game and create chances.

If Corluka could do this and whilst not doing anything amazing per say himself allowed Modric to forfill his potential with the club then it would be a move worth making.

Corluka is certanly strong and confident on the ball, seems to tackle well and as a defender may be better at reading the game then our other potential DM's.

Although he does seem a bit slow and seeing as he is by no means a midfielder he simply may not be up to the job any more (or even less so) then the likes of ZOkora.

Worth a try? quite possibly, atleast until we have the chace to bring someone else in for that role.

I think his best position is CB with Woody, both are classy defenders who are good with the ball at their feet & dont panic (unlike Daws). Also in January I would then put in a couple of sneaky bids for CB's who are not currently in the first team line-ups like Agger & Ben Haim. Both are good CB's who would command a first team spot. Then we can use King very sparingly & get rid of Daws.

We really need to sign a DM (Veloso?), LM (Capel?) & Arshavin in January (Arshavin was absolute class against Real Madrid the other night and would be a perfect signing)

As I've posted before he should be the other half of the Central Defensive partnership with Woodgate, sorry Leds but there has to be more mileage in that for the future.
Plus of course in the modern game there is a place for a CB who can carry the ball out, I give you Ferdinand, Toure and of course our own Ledley King as examples, Corluka doesn't need to be a DM to do that.

I think the Signing of Veloso would be a very very crucial one if we were to pull it of.
Can he not play CB also as DM two postion we most definetly need strength in..

Corluka long term CB with Woody ? Probably not my ideal partnership but hey could very well work

CB regularaly, DM sometimes. He's shown before he is a competent midfielder shown by the fact that he reads the ball well, positioning is good, calm in his distribution and doesn't try ott options.

People were suggesting Kaboul for DM last year, I didn't see it, he's everything Corluka isn't, his distribution uis spculative and wayward, his positioning is questionable and he doesn't read the ball too well.

He gets a nod for DM as out other mids are pretty garbage at defending.

I dunno.

I am the SC smartypants but don't trust ole Gibbsy on this one.

CB he looks best at if I were to hazard a guess. .
