So basically you're saying Villa never had a hope in hell of winning? People probably told Roberto Martinez the same when Wigan played Man City in the final.

Villa had a hope of winning if the Goons class players failed to put in a performance, unfortunately they did. It's a cliché but Villa needed to have their game of the season and the Arse needed an off day but the opposite happened.

For the Tim supporters, how do you explain the Soton result? Aston Villa were out scored 11-1 in the last three matches...if the manager gets the credit for the wins, then surely they must accept the responsibility for the lopsided losses.

Or is all strictly down to the players, wins and losses?

If Villa had their game of the season they would still have had a chance.

Players aren't good enough, can't do anything once you go 2-0 down, don't learn anything from those games, much of a muchness, win percentage, blah blah blah.

When he wins he basks in taking most of the credit.

When they lose, or go on a losing streak, he hangs his players out to dry.

Its such a short term strategy, as the inevitable losing streak will come and that will strain relations in the dressing room.

He is good at getting a group, with low morale, going initially. But as soon as things start to go wrong its like a house of cards just waiting to crash down and implode.

To think some planks were saying we should of kept him than get Poch. Fuck me.

They'll be in the mix for relegation next season to IMO.

How shocking of him to be the 1st manager to deflect blame when things go wrong.

Hmm, Aston villa, over run in midfield, very much looking like a team who don't work on shape and tactical awareness in training, trying to "out number" your opponent in that space out wide about 10 yards inside their half and launch some high balls to the big fella up front

Yep, Villa now looking like a side created in their manager's image

It's the same Sherwood we had, imo - effective against equal or lesser teams, woeful against better teams. I think there's a tactical naivety there - you can't attack at teams who are CL quality, or you'll get schooled.

Metaphorically speaking, it's like a 10 year old kid can bully the kids in his year group, but try it against an older kid and you'll get your arse kicked
Agree but this was a cup final.
You cant win without scoring so when you're way inferior to the oppositon you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Park the bus, go a goal behind and you've had it and against Arsenal its got to be some bus to keep them out.
Point I'm making is Arsenal are by far a better team with by far better players. A thumping was the most likely outcome, best case scenario just a loss. Calling Sherwood an idiot because of it is imo idiotic.

No Im saying it was unlikely.
Same as it was unlikely Wigan beat City.
Do you disagree?

Who called him an idiot?

Try telling all that to Pulis or Pardew - frustrate the opponents until they make a mistake, hit them on the break etc.

Villa got to the cup final by that same type of play, they thought they had bigger balls than they actually had yesterday though.

Sorry I wasn't implying you called him an idiot. Just refering to general theme of some earlier posts(y)
Again though, thats all well and good in a league game but a cup game you have to win can be a problem.
I personally would have parked the bus and started Agbumlahole to hit them on the counter but doubt it would have made any difference.

To be fair, Sherwood was an idiot long before this game...;)

Lots of underdogs have won cup finals though, you just have to mix things up and do a mourinho.

If Tim thought he was going to tip up at Wembley with the Renford Rejects and dazzle wenger with the beautiful game, he's well and truly gone home with food for thought.

Still blamed the players, mind.
