would love to get these 2 signed for backup, and to push through to become the next woody and king, then we can let chimbonda and corluka go for me, then we would have

hutton/naughton king/bassong woodgate/dawson BAE/bale

plus wheater due to our poor injury record in defence

then i feel we could make progress on last season, especially with the youngsters we have coming through too :)

Bassong would be a nice little addition.

Wheater is a fucking donkey though. He will be out of his depth in the Championship next season.

Agreed.
Don't see the fuss with the Boro monkey.

but i'd prefer him to dervite, until dervite has more experience, but wheater too might improve, just look at bramble at newcastle, when he moved to wigan he improved vastly

How wrong you are my friend. Wheater is solid and will bring us much needed cover ... I would like to see him at the Lane ! Sorry derivite just does not cut it.

Cant say I ever really paid much attention to Bassong, is he really that good?

My initial reaction was Newcastles defence was awful and they went down so he cant be that good? I mean would he even be as good as a Richard Dunne or Sylvain Distin?

bassong was the diamond in the rough, he sometimes looked out of position, but only because none of the others seem to know what to do, so he was trying to mark everyone, hes very good and young too

I'm in the Bassong-yes but how much, Wheater-no f**king way camp

Don't forget Chalky is relatively young too and has been excellent (perhaps tailed off a little at end of season but so did the team)

if we bought no-one other than these 2, knowing this could be our line up

gomes
naughton king woodgate BAE
lennon palacios bostock modric
crouch defoe

i would be happy especially knowing that this would be the backup/subs

cudicini
hutton dawson bassong bale
bentley jenas livermore rose
keane pavlyuchenko

and still have wheater, huddlestone, o'hara, obika and of course dos santos

seems a pretty decent squad especially with harry in charge

Bassong I'd like, at a decent price. Good cover for both King and Ekotto.

Wheater I would not like. He makes Gary Doherty look like Laurent Blanc.

And as for sacrificing Corluka, one of the leagues best right backs and definitely our best right back, I can only assume that you are winding us up, because nobody with half a brain could seriously suggest this.

I think if we are looking a Centre Backs then Harry has some fantastic options. From within the Premiership I think Distin, Yobo, Upson, Tomkins, Cahill are all decent shouts.
