I’ve seen enough good things of him to feel excited about him for the future. Good attitude. Wants it.

So far the only players we have actually signed are the ones we already had. That's about 50 mil out of the kitty (correct me if I'm wrong) I can't see Levy wanting to spend a lot more so in my opinion Maddison is unlikely to happen or any other player that isn't a deal. I so want to be wrong but we have been here before. The plus side as I see it is Ange with his style of play could transform a lot of our current players by releasing them from the rigid defensive play of the last couple of seasons. Who knows they may just click and show they are talented and they can play. It is probably just wishful thinking but if we don't have a lot to spend, who knows?

Obligation not option, man is ours no matter what date
It was reported as an obligation back in January, but is it possible that it was an obligation if we qualify for the Champions League and only an option if we don't?

I've not read anything suggesting this, but it would hardly be an unusual clause and could explain why some sources are currently stating "option".

I’d be really surprised if we don’t sign another centre back.

There is an argument for pulling the plug on this deal.

Well if Ange likes Spence and Royale there is, but for me, Porro replaces Lucas. He can rotate with Kulu who might end up playing as an 8. Showed enough last year in a defensive team to be valued at twice a much next year if it all clicks.

Most of the reports in January on the Porro deal did say obligation.
Be good if English clubs were clear and upfront on transfer costs like Sporting instead of everything being shrouded by the official secrets act.

Article says option.
Not exactly. It says both clubs can exercise the option - meaning Spurs do not have the ability to reject if Sporting want to sell at the agreed upon price.

And the only reason not to sell at that price is if Sporting can get a better deal somewhere else - and if Spurs did not want the player, they should still buy, then sell to the higher bidder…
