It's almost January and I can't find the rumours thread?
Surely the ITK's have a bag of info on whats coming up and we're missing out?! It's the best part of this site ...well, was, unless it comes back!

The buildup is as fun as the actual window. Open it up! We'll make up our own ITK to fill it til some comes along.

Calm down, calm down - it's only a message board forum.

It will get opened when the window opens. But as far as I can see there has not been a frenzy of information from ITKs.

True my rumours list will be nearly into three figures by January 1, but I think that too needs to be re-set as of the end of October. When he took over, there were stories that Wendy wouyld have casting vote on who we went for in the next two windows, and I don't think he is hanging out with the usual ITK crowd spilling the beans in advance.

Whats the state of affairs regarding strong rumours at this very moment then.
Is Diarra a real possibility?
What areas has the club said we're looking at?

The reason there hasn't been a frenzy is obviously that our (SC's) "transfer rumour window thingy" isn't open. duuuhhh.
You are holding up Ramos & spurs. Get with the fucking program.

Well, after a look on Newsnow the other day:

Theres a few stories floating around that there will indeed be a cash bid for Lassana Diarra in January. (Would they sell him so soon?).

Also two Ajax lads keep getting mentioned, one of them is Urby Emauelson (apologies if i spelt that wrong). The others name escapes me but he's a midfielder, with Urby being a left back. Both seem to be rated fairly highly which is good though. Also Urby's agent has said that he wouldn't be suprised to see his player make the move.

The typical silly season one this time around is David Villa :)rofl:). In fairness his agents to blame a bit, We supposedly enquired as to his availiability after Valencia's shocking start to La Liga this season, which led to his agent saying we had enquired and that in his mind if we made a decent offer, Valencia would probably go for it in order to rebuild. Then a day or two ago, Villa himself, when asked about staying at Valencia said "It is impossible for me to go on". Now the Mail, Mirror and various other online sources are kicking out the usual stories about how theres now a 20million pound race between us and Chelsea for him, seeimingly forgetting that not so long ago, Chelsea were quoted a 70million buy-out clause, and also seemingly forgetting that we have 4 strikers.

Some are going for the angle, of Berbatov leaving and thus we want Villa to fill the 'super striker' hole left in his place. So say, Berba is staying till summer, yet Bent and Defoe are off...Who knows, make your own judgement on that lot. Still something for you to think about!

Obviously David Villa should be taken with a pinch of salt as, for my money, he's probably the third best striker in world football right now behind Eto'o and Van Nistelrooy...but the story is lent credence by the fact that Valencia are going MENTAL right now. Villa wants out, Fernandes wants out, both Albelda and Canizares have asked to have their contracts cancelled...Valencia are fucked.

Now, obviously, we shouldn't expect to sign Villa - I'd be surprised if we were even after him given how much we need strengthening in other areas, and even if we went in for him you can guarantee we'd be joined by Chelsea, Liverpool, United, Madrid and maybe a couple of Italian clubs as well.

But the other players I've mentioned are players we could certainly do with (Albelda especially, he is a FANTASTIC player, one of those players like Xavi and Iniesta who is criminally underrated, rarely spoken of with regards to the best midfielders on the planet when, for my money, he is up there) and we are in with a shout for them, Albelda especially IMO.

I'm not sure how true this, but I was told that La Liga rules ban players from switching between top tier clubs mid-season - once a player has made five appearances for one La Liga club, he can't play for another that season. Which precludes Albelda from joining a top Spanish club - and he is on record as saying he would prefer to move to England than Italy. None of the top four over here have space for another centre mid, which is why Everton are trying to get him in (and Fernandes)...so why shouldn't we go for him. He is EXACTLY the sort of player we would need, and presumably the sort of player Ramos likes as well - he likes his deep-lying, hard-working, defensive-minded midfielders. I've no idea if we are in for him (though I vaguely recall us being linked with him recently) but if we aren't, we bloody should be.

I'd agree with that mate, I don't think we would even make an attempt at Villa but i wouldn't be suprised if we did go for some other Valencia players, there is certainly quality there, as you say, Albelda, Canizares (who i forgot to mention in my other post, was also linked to us the other day) and even players like Vicente, David Silva (see Villa for why we wouldn't get him) and co must be looking at the door and feeling tempted. I'd still love to see us try and tempt Lucho away from Porto, I appreciate he's currently in the champions league, Captain, and getting a go in the national side for the argies, but maybe the lure of the Premiership and a bit more money could lure him?. Didnt Everton try last season for Lucho?.

Everton were VERY close to signing him AFAIK, at one point I heard from a couple of people that it was a 'done deal' (although from the ITK threads in here, you know that
means as much as...well, something very meaningless indeed).

He's another one like Albelda who is ludicrously underrated, though maybe for more obvious reasons - in a smaller league and playing for a national side that Europeans don't see much of. He's an excellent player though, the complete midfielder. Either of them would improve our side greatly.

As you said, Silva would just be a pipe dream as with Villa, but Vicente...why not? One of the best left wingers in the world just a couple of years ago, has said before that he'd like a move to England (although admittedly he specifically mentioned Liverpool)...he would be a fantastic signing. I have to admit that the few times I saw Fernandes last season for Everton he looked very good, and perhaps more importantly his best performances were against the top sides - the games we tend to do poorly in. His performances at home to Arsenal and United last season were excellent, including an excellent goal in the United game.

Whatever you do, please the name BEN should not be mentioned on this forum. It was just the last week he said Ledders will never play again. So, no ITK info from Ben please...

That one will be neatly sidestepped by his disciples.

Meanwhile, the TF Forum is currently being fine tuned and will no doubt be making an appearance shortly. Patience. It will be worth the wait. Apparently.

Yep, good signing was Manuel Fernandes.

I didn't realse that Everton got so close to Lucho, looking around a few archives on the net it seems they bid about 10-12 for him, which for a player of that quality isnt too bad actually, captain material plus as you say the complete midfielder.

Also, Lucho, 26-27? if im right on that then he's at a good age for our team, as he's still more than young enough to play week in week out, but alos brings a wealth of experience to the side, something we lack when certain players are missing. He would also bring leadership qualities that seemingly don't exist when King is not in the team. For the money that Everton were willing to pay i think he'd be more than worth a punt.

Vicente mentioned Liverpool at a time when if you were spanish and fancied England, Liverpool was where you would be. Maybe it still is, but i guess having a spanish manager may mean we start to see a few more spanish players coming toward us.

I actually hope we do look at La Liga and The portugese league as the players there often have a higher technical ability, where as players here are generally faster, it would be nice to see some players in our midfield that if needed could play passes and anchor the ball aswell as using Lennons pace.

I nearly choked on my wholemeal tuna mayo sarnie while falling off the settee after reading this pap from todays Times article about January sales....

Tottenham Hotspur
What they need Juande Ramos has plugged some of the leaks, roughly halving the number of goals conceded, but the head coach is keen to sign an experienced central defender and a holding midfield player. Chris Gunter, the right back, will sign from Cardiff City for about £2 million next week.
Who they want Sol Campbell, labelled “Judas” after his defection to Arsenal six years ago, is rumoured to be on the list. They may try again for Wes Brown, the Manchester United defender. Lassana Diarra, the Arsenal midfield player, has been trying to attract interest from other clubs. Alexander Kerzhakov, the Seville forward, and Luka Modric, the Dynamo Zagreb midfield player, are targets.
Spending power Although the club spent upwards of £35 million last summer under Martin Jol, Ramos has been promised substantial cash, but he knows there are few bargains to be had. Money could come from the possible sale of Darren Bent, the forward, to West Ham United.

Bonkers !

I don't see a particularly busy January as the options available are usually slim pickings. With The King back and surely Rocha and Gardner can't be out too much longer and Zokora showing himself to be a good team player by fulfilling the role when needed all of a sudden the need for an experienced centre back is nowhere near as desperate as it appeared just a few weeks ago.

If we can attract any top young players then like always we should invest but buying a player for right now will be difficult. Our best option might be to offer a swap deal if we identify a quality player that would fit into our team.

Most will probably disagree but I wouldn't mind having Sidwell at WHL at all, good amount of fight and the ability to score a few goals.
