Which would you choose?

So if you were offered the choice of these two scenarios RIGHT NOW, which would you take?

1. Knocked out of the CL by Milan BUT finish 3rd in the league

or

2. Finish 5th BUT in the final of the Champions League(with the chance to WIN it) - against a team of your choice

So basically it's a choice between guarenteed CL football next season with progression in the league, or taking a chance on it but being in the final of the biggest tournament in club football. I was going to put 4th in the league but that would still leave the chance of us missing out if Chelsea managed to win the CL, as for the other option I couldn't say win the CL as that's a win-win situation and a bit of a no-brainer.

On balance, I'd take the second option. The chance to win that final would be amazing.

I'd "take" either, because ultimately we'd have no choice.

Second option - Final of the Champions League, against the Gooners, we win by a landslide with slick attacking sexy footy and as a consequence knock Chelase out of fourth place qualification via the League..

First option. For the growth of the club, we need to ensure champions league next season. Although the second option is a dream tie, it does not 100% guarantee us Champions league football next year as we would still have to win it.

Going out of the CL at the stage we have got in our first ever year would be respectable, if not a little disappointing. Not qualifying for next year, after tasting it this year would be heartbreaking.

Option A....the reason being we would go straight to the group stages, thus eliminate either city or chelsea and by finishing 3rd it would mean we would have gone on another good run untill the end of the season....Happy days.

Option B whilst mouthwatering....leaves you open to a major heartbreak in the final and no CL next season.

Option A would allow us to keep Bale, modric etc..

To risk losing , as we may in option B, may mean adios :hello: modric and/or Bale .

I'm assuming reaching the final doesn't actually mean winning the thing, and as it's a cut & dry, 1 or the other, I've gone for finishing 3rd.

We need CL football next season to keep making strides forward with improving the squad. Simple as that!!!

Yea I would go with option A. guaranteed CL football the next season with the chance to potentially attract better players in the summer, attempt to build a title challenging side and kick ass in Europe

Really don't want to be in the Europa League as well....

No, we're in the final, but obviously there's a chance we can win THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ON OUR FIRST ATTEMPT, or we can lose and no CL the following year, so a 50/50 shot really - whether it's against Shakhtar, Barca, Arsenal or whoever.

I would probably take the final if it were against Copenhagen... otherwise it's guaranteed Champions League all the way.

It is an interesting question, Brett, but I'd have to go with these fellas.
If we had already finished fifth, however, and reached the final of the CL of course I would think it amazing...just a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush (as the actress said to the bishop:whistle:).

Option 2. What's the point in qualifying for a competition if we don't want to win it?! And this would be a chance to win it. No brainer.

Brainer.

Dig into the consequences:
Fail to qualify for CL = serious revenues drop, difficulty in attracting top players, possibility of losing star turns;
Qualifying for CL = boost to revenues, attracting top players, keeping hold of star turns.

Reaching the final is not winning the final, therefore you cannot equate the two and call it a 'no brainer'. I repeat 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'. :shifty:

In hindsight maybe I should've stuck with 4th instead of 3rd. Nobody likes a landslide poll.

First option all day long....for the future development of this Club and the chance to be in this competition on a regular basis by attracting more quality players - and hopefully going far in it, regularly, for years to come.

As amazing as the final would be I would go for guaranteed CL over a coin toss, albeit it would be truly staggering if we pulled it off.

Its a teaser alright though....

I would have to say the first option as well for all the reasons documented above. We have already a great squad at our disposal that will only develop and grow stronger and with the potential to add quality players in key positions we should be able to stake a claim to be a top European side for the medium and hopefully long term.

However, the glory of potentially winning the Champions League would be something every fan, regardless of allegiance would remember and for us, treasure forever - finishing runner-up though, and it's instantly forgotten and the nearly men could have a big fall from grace.

Could I pick an option for both?!

Okay maybe not a no brainer, but:

You give yourself a 50/50 chance of winning it, and qualifying anyway. Maybe better than 50/50 'against a team of your choice', remember.

But forget qualifying focus on A CHANCE OF WINNING IT. Being the first London club to win the European Cup. In the history books forever.

Or, finish 4th, qualify again. Win it? Probably not. Certainly not as likely as if playing a team of our choice in the final at Wembley.

And next year we have to compete to finish 4th again. And if we pick option A and play in the Champions League, yes, increased revenue, keeping players etc. But do you think Man U, Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea are going away anytime soon? So there's absolutely no guarantee that having a second year gives us a third year, or a fourth or a fifth.

A one-off chance to win the greatest club competition in the world, and do it before Chelsea, before Arsenal? I'll take that.

Long term development of the club, financial implications... it's like a shareholders meeting.

Nah, the game's about glory...

Then again, no one's going to change their mind, people rarely do that in real life let alone on the internet, so yeah, option A for most of you, but that one shot at it for me, every time.
