Head says guaranteed CL qualification means we can continue to progress as a club, keep our best players and recruit other top class players for a meaningful assault on both the Premiership and CL titles next season.

Heart says "Audere est Facere".

Head over heart for me. The downside is just too huge. As things stand i'd happily take either option though as I expect us to finish 5th and not make the CL final.

I think people are judging their answers on the POSSIBLE downside, not the definitive one. Yes Leeds did tail off, sell their best players and went down the toilet. Our structure is not even similar to theirs. The finish of 5th place was good enough to get players of Bale, Modric, Berbertov's level and will be good enough to bring others in. It's up to Harry and Levy to turn down bids on our players whether we get 3rd, 4th or 5th.

Think of the possibilities Champions League Final, I'd take that over 3rd any day. I'd even be happy to finish outside the Europa places and get to the final with another ten years of mediocre shite we've been accustomed to for so many years. Bloody hell it was only a couple of years ago we strived for the Coka Cola Cup and now we call it the Mickey mouse cup and couldn't give two hoots about it. Look at where we've come in such a relative short period of time.

I think we would have a greater chance of keeping ALL our best players if we have CL football next year than if we don't.

Sorry mate, i would never want us to slip back to those crap, awful days, we have got a taste of being a top side both at home and in europe, for it to be a one off for the sake of a CL final, would be absolutely unacceptable to me, and to loads of others here too.
I want us to be like the arse, man u etc, CL football every year please!!

agreed, but as it's not in cement that we would I'd prefer to see us contest a final where I think we would have a bloody good chance to win the thing. If that was to happen we'd get the slot for next season anyway and be a better prospect for any player wanting to come over in the summer.

It's all what if's I know but look on the positive side of things rather than concentrate on the possible negatives. Christ the oil market may dry up City and Chelsea go pop and we get left to finish third by default. Again all possibles but less likely than losing a final if we got there.

While the 1st option is the safe option, I reckon facing Inter again, at Wembley, would be special

Option B every time for me - to dare is to do..

It's not like being in the CL has changed much - the world class players we have, we had before?

its like having a deal or no deal final box decision, you might have £250k sitting infront of you or you might have 50p and the bankers has just offered you £11k what do you do? (ok that's a stupid analogy, but I'm sure you get my jist)

Its abit like deal or no deal, option A is like taking 100,000 when you have 1p or 250,000 left.
option B is like opening you box.

Stupid comparison maybe, but same sort of risk to me.
:duh:
Yea, only an idiot would make that sort of comparison

A is the best long term option, B is nice in the short term but ultimatly worse overall, unless we won it.

I would say being in Europe definitely appealed to VDV for starters...

Option B - WE ARE TOTTENHAM:
"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high... so high, in fact, that even failure will have in it an echo of glory!"

Yes, but Bill Nick had the luxury of winning the leagie so its all well and good to quote that, but these days its really not just a case of putting ona show and being satisfied.
