I feel like I should apolgise for sort of hijacking this thread by inserting memories of times past.

Another memory I have is the night games and noticing the steady plumes of cigarette smoke rising above all the
stands and the matches and lighters flicking their flames.

A different time.

Yeah! There was also an aroma that enveloped the whole area, a mixture of fags, burgers, beer breath, chips and peanuts and there always seemed to be a light mist and a certain buzz!! Oh, and the old floodlights, aahhh!! the memories!! When I was kid it was just magical!!!

Not sure where to put these but I stumbled across them in my attic the other day. They were part of a larger project I did in the mid-90s when I studied White Hart Lane for 2 years for my A-Levels. Must dig the rest up. The project coincided with the last major redevelopment of the Lane.

It wasn't so bad when we were winning comfortably, but every other person would light up if it got tense.

I wonder if the delay to the formal announcement about Wembley is to make this all as low key as possible.
Levy is a businessman and has no time for nostalgia, especially when all the seats are sold already.
For the sake of naming rights, Levy's job is to get us to forget the name WHL as quickly as possible. The last thing he'll want is a big song and dance.

We are emotionally involved with White Hart Lane. Emotionally involved people part with money. Levy will be all over this.

Assuming we do announce the plans to move to Wembley today, the club have just over a week to roll out any plans for the WHL send off. Would be unlike DL to miss a trick and a chance to make a few quid.

Nice to see all the money from last game memorabilia will be going to the Trust for former Spurs players. Classy touch from Daniel.

It'll be a sad day. A few memories spring to mind......

Girls walking around the pitch with trays hung around their necks selling peanuts
Great hairy arsed blokes carrying the same, calling 'peanuts!, peanuts!'
The floodlight pylons
The half time "A B C D" boards with the scores of the other games
Standing
The shelf
Wading ankle deep through piss for a slash
Hoddles' volley v Utd
Seeing myself standing in the Paxton on 'The Big Match' in 1976
Gathering on the pitch and singing 'we'll support you ever more' when we got relegated (Imagine the carnage if that happened today)
Laughing my head off at the sight of my grandson trying to eat a footlong
Watching Enfield v Barnsley in an FA Cup replay from the building site that was the West Stand
Hoddle's last goal
For some strange reason an Alan Brazil hat-trick which I think got us into Europe (when we treated it as if it mattered)
Peter Taylor on the wing
Don McAllisters diving header v Bolton in front of 50,000 in the old Div 2
Bristol Rovers
The ticker tape style reception for Ardiles & Villa - then losing 4-1
Van Den Hauwe & Stuart Pearce having at it
The flags waving during the 4-4 Villa game celebrations
Beating 'unbeatable' Bayern Munich 2-0 after losing 1-0 over there. Fuck you Paul 'we've already gone through' Brietner.
Wild celebrations in the Park Lane when Robbo scored v Anderlecht
Even wilder ones when Tony Parks made the save

Countless other games, incidents and goals..........Jesus that place has been a big part of my life. I feel old.

Don't you remember the brass bands marching up and down the pitch at half time ?

I started going in the early 60's first with my grandad and then with my uncles. My Dad never had any interest in Spurs which was odd in a family that was Spurs mad and lived in Tottenham. The current WHL is nothing like the original ground. It was all standing in the Park Lane in those days and as a kid you would be lucky if you saw half the game on the terraces. But the mood of the crowd was infectious and there was so much more energy compared to today. The singing from the Park Lane itself and the Shelf to the right. It never stopped while the game was on. I can remember being lifted literally off the floor when the crowd surged. I was there all through the 60's, 70's and 80's. Lots of great memories.

Spurs was always the club that chose you my Grandad used to say. Not the other way round. I'll miss the old girl.

They were very annoying, continually pushing past.
I remember a seller was once somehow separated from his supply and his goods were redistributed, thrown bag by bag high into the air - 'Peanuts!'.
It was very funny at the time. Perhaps not so funny now.

Yeah I remember the peanut seller. Sat in the North Stand for a while. Wooden seats!

My very earliest visits to WHL were with Dad, uncles and granddad, in the enclosure (we must have been posh and rich to pay the extra 6d).

I was just the right height to peer through the crossed-over loops of iron than ran along the top of the wall at the front, putting me on a level with the players' knees.

I have very clear memories of Jimmy Greaves' and Dave Mackay's knees. And what knees they were.

Enjoyed reading those posts of memories at the lane.
Seems so sterile now in comparison.
Just the world we live in unfortunately.
Same as my childhood compared to my sons. We used to all bugger off to the woods building dens and climbing trees. He's not allowed further than the end of the street on his own. Everything is controlled and supervised. Shame.
Bring back the chaos lol.
Going to be so weird once she's actually gone. No more whl.
Can't wait for new stadium though.
