Roughly translates as.....

Benoit Assou-Ekotto, 22 years, the former defender of Lens today with Tottenham, was condemned Wednesday by the correctional court of Arras to eight days of prison with deferment and 2000 euros of fine for an aggression made in March 2005 close to Arras. The player had given a violent one kick to the face of such an young man him 22 years old, at the time of a tournament of football in room in Saint-Nicolas-lèz-Arras. The victim had in particular had the jaw fractured and its wounds had involved 15 days of total disablement of work. In front of the court of Arras in October 2006, the representative of the public ministry had required a sorrow of three months of prison with deferment and 3000 euros fine. The reasons of the aggression were not clearly established but Benoît Assou-Ekotto, present at the audience, had evoked a lack of respect of the victim which would not have tightened the hand to him, whereas they knew each other in particular to have attended the same college.

1. NeverRed06
is this a joke or someit
2. NeverRed06
no not a joke seen it on alot of french newspapers, the club must have been informed about this as it was an incident a while ago, no surprise the guy broke his jaw especially havin a footballer kick you in the head, oouucchh!!!!
3. mawspurs
Maybe this explains some of his lapses in concentration, he obviously had this on his mind.
4. AJ
Yep, that's a "rough" translation all right...

I've lost all respect for him now. To kick someone in the head is always a horrendous barbarian act regardless of the circumstances. The sooner such a violent bastard leaves our beloved club the better. And before many of you reply to me telling me what a sissy I am, I have say that this is only my opinion, I'm entitled to it and I really couldn't care less what other people think about it. I don't approve violence in any form.
5. infamousyiddo
and theres me thinking he was absent coz he's shite.

he only got eight days in jail for breaking someones jaw????seem leanient, was his trial in england?lol
6. PartyBoy
Now now lets not all overreact here. Firstly to kick someone in the face is a bad, cowardly act. The guy missed 15 days of work. I have had my jaw fractured before and did not know about it until a few days later when I decided to check it out, the fracture was slight but the pain lasted a lot more than 15 days. Anyway the nature of the injury is irrelevant as it is the act itself that is the issue. Having said that we have to remember the guy is only 22. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake as long as they learn from it. To say ‘kick him out of the club’ is just crazy talk. I assume you would want every robbers hands cut off at that rate. Chill out and stop getting so hysterical, if the report is true then let’s judge him by what he does in future.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
7. gloryglory
Actually I think it's a suspended sentence.
8. Ali
Yes, it is. 8 days suspended and a EUR2000 fine.
9. AJ
I didn't say "kick him out of the club". I said, as my own opinion, that the sooner he leaves the club the better. I talked about my own feelings about the issue of him being at Spurs, I wasn't making a suggestion.

I said that I don't approve violence in any form, yet you somehow got the idea that I'd like it if someone's hands were cut off. What on earth lead you to make such an assumption?

I do not think that Assou-Ekotto should be further punished by anyone, the court has done that already (although quite leniently). But I do think that also player's personal qualities should be considered when putting a team together. When making a choice between two players who are equal in terms of footballing abilities, I'd choose the one who hasn't kicked someone in the face. Such violent acts reveal something very sinister about a person's nature.

Fair enough AJ, I maybe did jump the gun a bit by suggesting that you may like to see him kicked out but do you really think then that most of the guys who ply their trade in the premiership are saints from holy backgrounds. I just feel that he should be given a chance; surely it would be positive for us if we could irradiate that side to him and make him better all round so as he could contribute handsomely to our team i.e. improve the good qualities and improve the bad.

The robber bit was just an analogy by the way. But if you prefer then, what about taking away a kids bicycle if he rides on the wrong side of the road!
11. AJ
No I really do not think that Premiership footballers are somehow saints and I didn't suggest so either. I was talking about my own opinion: I wouldn't ever hire a person who has been found guilty of assault or other violent crimes.

Your analogies are, to say the least, a wee bit shaky. It's ridiculous to compare a kid who rides on the wrong side of the road to a person who uses brutal and potentially even fatal violence against a fellow human being.

I'd say that there's something fundamentally wrong in a person's head if he ever, regardless of the circumstances, deliberately kicks another person in the head. That kind of acts show lack of respect towards other human beings.
12. PartyBoy
AJ, you are starting to bore me.
13. sundancer
I think most of us have done things we regret and have been punished for, lets hope he has learnt a lesson and can get on with his life.
14. we8sol
gabrielle heinze would be an adequate replacement, now that he is not a first team regular at utd????
15. alchemission
Hey look, I respect most human beings, ok? But sometimes idiots need a kick in the chops to shut them up ya know.
16. mancman
The question is can Benoit learn to control his violent tendencies by thinking before he acts. Well watching him against Arsenal and Freddie Ljungberg suggests not. His tackling was reckless and frankly stupid. Marti Jol and the rest of the Spurs staff will probably know more about his temperament watching him in training. I will wait for developments....
17. McFlash
Hey, it's not like he went fives up on some poor young girl and filmed it, now is it?!!!!
18. nikhil86
I just think the guys shite!i wasnt convinced by him from the start of the season, and the arsenal game convinced me that hes not worthy to wear the shirt.
19. Marty
Disgraceful...good thing it looks like Lee's gonna get a decent run in the side now. I was never one of his critics (Stalteri, on the other hand...)

On another note, anybody here remember Mbulelo Mabizela? The guy who scored a fantastic long-ranger vs Leicester on his debut, but hardly ever played afterwards?

Back in South Africa now, after a (very) short spell at Vålerenga in Norway where he got something like two sub appearences in a year, and has tested positive on marijuana. Faces a 6-month suspension.

Just thought it might interest someone:wink:
