"He said: “He was a brilliant little player but a dirty little b******. He kicked me in the leg I’d just come back from breaking twice. If he’d kicked the other one, I could have accepted that. But he kicked the broken one and that really annoyed me. I could’ve killed him that day.”"

Sharp as a needle vindication by Dave, as if any were needed. Iconic picture; iconic player.

Was talking to an elderly Celtic fan who said even they loved Dave MacKay, particularly after one incident he witness. It was in the late 50's and Hearts were playing at Parkhead. The Jungle where the craziest Celtic fans stood had really been jeering him in the pre game warm up. MacKay went off the pitch and stood on the track off the pitch. He rolled the sleeves up on his jersey and stood there fronting what had been a very hostile crowd. The old boy said there was then a stunned silence from the Jungle - followed by wild applause for him. MacKay never had a problem with them again.

What we wouldn't give for Dave Mackay in our current Spurs team? A magnificent player & inspirational figure that shone in a team of greats.

When i look at old pictures of our side during the 'Bill Nicholson years' i am reminded of why i love Tottenham Hotspur Football Club? The gleeming white jerseys; the proud crest emblazoned on the chest. The greatness that resonates from those images leaves me beaming with pride.

Too many, particularly in recent times, have not been fit enough to wear the shirt. The useless lumps that currently infest our squad should be ashamed & i hope that it won't be too long before we see a side that can match & perhaps surpass the achievements such storied legends.

The story seems to have changed in recent years about him hating that picture in which that little _ _ _ _ seemed to be begging him not to hit him. He used to be proud of it and had it miniaturised and put into a broach and wore it round his neck.

I think the only way the image could be construed as Mackay being a bully is if they were unfamiliar with the type of player Bremner was.
