Why is the bbc shoving the women game down our throats?

What a sexist bunch some of you are.

As has been said, if you don't like it you don't have to watch it. Just like anything else on TV you don't like you can switch channels.

What a strange thread. I'm sure some chaps on here think they are just being funny and maybe even post ironic...

Sad thing is they're not. They just sound embarrassing.

One of the best sporting events last year was the woman's World Cup.

The BBC cant afford anything else. Snooker, The boat race and Wimbledon which they will lose soon.
Women's football is practically free to re-stream for them.

Sky and to a lesser extent BT have the rest.

People don't have a problem with women's football, in my experience no one has any issue with it and a lot enjoy watching the big international tournaments.

The problem comes from people constantly trying to say it's as good as the men's game, or attaching ridiculous hyperboles to it. See the post two above mine for an example of the latter.

Lesser extent BT? They seem to have better Premier League games, always bloody on there. There's a reason SSN are always talking up La Liga, MLS, NFL and Sportswomen. BT have moved in big time and even Sky are now trying to fill the gap. How often do I really need to hear there's been a goal in the Dutch league?

BT Sport are in meltdown financially - lost a fortune on champions league and EPL

I loved that World Cup. Sorry if that doesn't fit your point of view.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, much rather see ads for sports I do not watch than be subjected to ads for whatever reality TV abomination they have a thing for.

The only problems I have with Women's football is that Spurs are shite and the leagues frequently dominated by the scum.

Didn't we just win a cup and reach another final? Come on you Spurs Ladies!
Hmm... Might need to change that. Up the Ladies? Needs work.

Admittedly my indifference means I've not paid any attention this season, kept being distracted by a bunch of men trying to win some title or something.

Ah, makes sense, I haven't followed the men's game. How we doing, up to 4th yet?

If we're gonna start a thread complaining about adverts then I'd like to nominate the Go Compare adverts, that fat curly headed **** trying to ram opera down my throat, good God.

Do you have a source for this SteveH? It was always a possible loss leader but they had to go for it when Sky moved in on their business.

I found the last woman's WC much more enjoyable than the men's (from an English perspective). Frankly the English women showed far more passion for the shirt than anything the blokes have done for years.

I enjoyed it a lot as well, but I do think the standard was very poor. The goalkeeping in particular was atrocious, proper sunday league imo. The Japanese were my favourites, I thought that it actually looked like a proper match of football when they were playing. That said, the standard has improved a lot from the last international tournaments I've seen, and I am looking forward to the next.

My favourite English players were Yankey and Aluko, but without them playing I suppose my favourites are Captain No-neck and the Peter Beardsley girl. Can't stand our grumpy goalie though.

My only problem with the reporting is that it always seems to be about Arsenal and Chelsea winning. I don't want to read about that in any sport.

I enjoy watching the women's game sometimes. It's just a different game to the men's. Just like men's and women's tennis are different. There are different elements to enjoy.

then shouldn't they be marketed differently? I don't know how, it is probably too late, but otherwise the comparisons will be there and the argument of 'it's just not very good, is it..' come out because it feels like they are forcing the sports to be on equal footing (when they are not and can't be..) - rather than promoting the qualities of the sport itself - down the audience's throat. It doesn't have to be treated the same.

They are trying by shoehorning England Women's players into photoshoots and the PFA Awards. Not that they shouldn't be there, but it's like they just appear rather than being well known enough to be accepted. I hope that makes sense.. it feels like a token gesture or a 'you will accept this, you will, you will, you will!' type of marketing exercise. Instead it stands out like Ashley Cole in a Roma team photo.

I'd expect the vast majority of male football fans not to care about women's football because - in comparison - it appears childlike, especially the goalkeeping which has been an issue for a while.

So, why not change tact and promote whatever it is that makes women's football (or tennis or cricket) different (and therefore better) than the male equivalent. That could be the equal skill level of the top teams, the style of Japan or Brazil, or whatever it is. I don't watch it, even see it on TV or in the news, or know anything about it, so...

I think Tennis has a problem where the level and style of the Williams' over everyone else distorts the game and the pay equality issue needs to be resolved. Pay the same/play the same, or not.. but don't say it's sexist to pay less if the players play less. Anyway...

or i'm totally wrong and that's that.

I'd nominate that woman footballer advertising Always Ultra (or a similar female product). Bleeding women footballers, just can't get away from them.
