Why Poch might leave.......and why he might stay

I think Poch would have more opportunity to emulate someone like Fergie as a great manager if he were to stay with us and see the project through. If we were to gain success under his management that we are aiming for he would be a truely great manager for his achievements and could potentially be spoken about with Ferguson. I dont think the same can be said if he were to gain success at united in their current state.

I think Man United have to go backwards a few more steps before they can go forward and I think our club is a lot more appealing than United unless you are a football assassin just in it for the money like a lot of their players and fans.

My ITK on this is:

If he wants to leave he will
If he wants to stay he will

Feel free to quote me on any of this

Wouldn't be a massive surprise to find out that this conversation involved Fergie telling Poch his time and chance would come and that he could afford to wait back then though would it?

We know that Fergie told United Poch was the man. Ok, so he said the same thing about Moyes, but his word still carries more weight than anyone else at that club.

I'm 50/50 as to whether I think Poch will leave us for them next summer - one of the things to hope for is that Solksjaer does really well with them to the point they might take him on full-time - but I just don't understand this blanket dimissal from some fans.

"He won't go" is no more rational or likely than the "He's gone, fuck him" statements I'm seeing. The fact is that there's a very good chance he'll go, and a very good chance he'll stay. He'll make his own mind up in the summer and nothing else will effect that decision.
I would agree with this. However I can't believe, it Utd do want him and he's interested, that things can remain the same until the end of the season. I do suspect that Levy will privately want some reassurance in the short term. If Poch is interested in the Utd job then I could actually see things happening a lot sooner. For example when Kyle Walker privately confirmed to Poch that he wanted to go to City things unravelled.

If Poch isn't 100% committed for the remainder of the season then staying in post would almost contradict his own ethos.

My onion is that he'll confirm, privately, to Levy that he will be here next season and Utd will look elsewhere this time. However...one of these days he will be off.....and he'll have left us in a hell of a lot better state than he found us. For that we should be forever grateful.

Pretty much where I am on the situation, I don’t think he has made up his mind yet and the next 6 months will massively influence the outcome. He will continue with his, it’s not up to me it’s up to Daniel line, which doesn’t really fill me with confidence. As always he could very easily rule himself out of the running if he wanted to.

He certainly could - but why on Earth would he want to? It only weakens his position - even if his ultimate goal is to force Levy into more providing him with more support.

It's almost a double edged sword that with top jobs becoming available far more frequently these days, it means that we have to put up with these situations more regularly but on the other hand, Poch also knows that he can afford to turn jobs down without thinking that he's blown his chance. On the contrary, his stock will probably continue to rise - even more so if we win a trophy.

why he might stay: cos levy might put a clause into the (already orbital) transfer that manure cant sign or approach any players or managers unless offered by spurs for the next ten years.. i mean, that would put me off!

they probably need a spurs player more than poch anyways , they definitely aint getting more than one off Levy. they should just stop fucking about and just sign Levy to be honest, that's what manure need, the chairman of chairmans.

You'd like to think Poch will stay and really take the club to new levels ,stage by stage Tottenham are progressing rapidly. Poch could become a legend at this club he is on the right path...Man Utd will be a difficult job to turn down however I truly feel Tottenham have grown enough to bat such raids off we are forward thinking.

Man Utd should really go for Klopp.

All the press are forgetting the biggest reason why Utd will struggle to pull Poch away from us. Daniel Levy.

I have complete faith Levy will tear them a new one. Either way we will win.

#COYS and fuck the press. Jamie Redknapp can fuck off too.

If he had any thoughts of leaving I can see no reason at all why he would have signed a new long term contract at exactly the same time as the Real Madrid became vacant. They're a much more appetising prospect than Man Utd..
Have to disagree with this. Man U are a far better fit for Poch than Real Madrid. Real are a club who want instant success and they get it by buying players rather than developing them. Plus there's a lot of interference from the directorial side of things. Man U for all their buying of players are, or certainly were under Ferguson, a club where home-grown talent could flourish. That would suit Poch down to the ground.

During the summer, a friend bet me a hundred quid that Poch would go to Madrid to take over from Zidane. This was the day Zidane left, before Poch had signed his contract. I nearly took his arm off to make the bet. I enjoyed that money, but I believe Madrid simply isn't the right fit for Poch and I also reckon he knows it. He might go there as a last hurrah before he retires - just to have managed the Galacticos, but not right now.

Now, if my friend offered me the same bet today relating to Man U, I wouldn't take it. At Man U, Poch would have the opportunity to do what he's done for us: rebuild the club. Also, from what I understand, what he was starting to do at Southampton before they allegedly pulled the rug out from under him.

There are many reasons why he would want to stay: his temperament, the fact that he seems to enjoy the challenge of building something, perhaps a sense that the job isn't done here yet. But there are many reasons why he would go to Man U - the chance to rouse a slumbering giant and the opportunity to have some real financial muscle behind his efforts to build something long-term.

I'm worried, but I also have hope.

If Poch took the United job and performed as Fergie did in his first 2/3 seasons, he’d be sacked.

United needs a bit of a overhaul and it’s likely to take a while, relatively speaking.

Why will poch leave?

Money...

Man Utd will make him the highest paid coach in Europe. It gonna be a huge pay day.

We all know Levy will do his best to keep him around... But i think if man utd throw like 50M to us for him... I gonna be hard for him to say no, especially if Poch wants the money.

IIRC he is one of the top 5 highest earning coaches in EPL, behind Pep, Jose, Klopp. so we ain't that cheap.

Jan/Feb is gonna be interesting...

Hopefully, we will get the players He wants... and maybe even a new contract. and that should signal utd to look elsewhere.

Give him a 10-year contract with automatic 1 million pounds increments whenever we qualify for CL and a one million pounds bonus for winning the EPL or CL. I can afford to be generous as it's not my money.

Can't see him leaving to manage another team in England. Especially a team that is in as much trouble as United are. They're overrun with mediocre defenders and defensive minded midfielders. Isn't a Poch team.

I seriously can't guess how this will go. All I know is that I'm pulling for the Baby-faced assassin to work miracles up there (not including them overtaking us, of course, but they can finish second :))

Erm I wouldn’t be so sure. Even if Levy got £40m compensation, what’s that? One and a half decent players in today’s market if you really shop well?

The general undervalue of managers compared to value of players and the level of impact Poch has had means the change, if and when occurs, will be seismic. Money isn’t everything, as we have shown ourselves

The media are playing their games and it’s already getting out of hand. It’s going to be open season in the club until he either leaves or a statement is made saying he’s not going to United.

I’m not sure if he stays. I’d like to think he will, he seems a loyal man generally with principles but we’ve heard that all before haven’t we?

If he goes our next appointment is massive.
