I just don't get it, a 19 year old that has been given the chance to play for us. He hasn't spoken ill of us, there are far worst performers this season. Everywhere (Twitter, facebook) I look, our fans are putting him down. Why is everyone trying to destroy this kid?

I don't think most hate Bentaleb, I think they just don't think he warrants being 1st on the team sheet ahead of Paulinho, Capoue , Holtby, Dembele, Sandro, even Chadli and the rest

He is going to be a great asset for Spurs, but needs to be eased in.

But isn't that Sherwood's fault? Why is Nabil catching the flack?

I don't know, maybe frustration at his apparent favouritism ? You know, you can't beat the teacher but you can kick the shit out the teachers pet! Not a mentality I empathise with but that doesn't mean I know it exists

Twitter and Facebook are not anywhere, they're nowhere. Social media is an echo chamber for morons who haven't yet realised their opinion means nothing in the grand scheme of things...If you want more poignant nuggets like that, follow me on twitter

He's had a fantastic debut season and with the right guidance, hard work and sprinkling of luck he'll become a really good player.

People who say otherwise know fuck all about football. And I don't converse with such chizzle dicks.

He's been overused at times but anyone who can't see that he's got it in him to become a seriously top class player doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. I see people listing their squads for next season and they don't even have Bentaleb in the 22! Crazy imo.

Giving him the chance is one of the very few things that Sherwood has actually got right.

If anyone basis general opinion from posts on social media, you're in for a bad time from the off, often you'll see the same person tweeting a differing opinion on a player or coach purely based on what they read from some half-arsed article on sportsdirectnews or simply sheep along with the hashtag of the day.

He's obviously a talented player, one which I was excited to see and now he's had his chance, he's pretty much taken it, I think dropping him was the right idea, but I'd like to see him in the team vs Fulham, he's got a certain calmness about him which is appealing, if he stays and gets used, he will be pretty good for us in the long run.

I don't get it either.

I mean I can understand that people don't rate Sherwood and think Bentaleb is 'his' player but I can't understand that people are too stupid to separate the two things. He's a kid of 19 who has come in and is performing a couple of clicks below Sandro's level. That is serious promising in a tough position that often requires maturity & discipline. Along the way, a ton of 'fans' have written off Harry Kane before he even started a Premiership game 'Championship class' etc. Now he's come in & has thus far done well. He's 20!

Sherwood clearly isn't the long term managerial answer for this club but the legacy he will leave is that of starting the careers of two seriously promising young players we have on our books. And this at a time when we've historically been reluctant to promote young players & have often bought instead. Neither Redknapp or Villas-Boas were inclined to promote youth beyond the obvious.

Redknapp didn't trust Sandro for ages for example & Villas Boas used established first teamers as substitutes in a Europa League dead rubber!

As far as i'm concerned (and I appreciate this won't chime well with the 'We need finished article World Class players in every position and throughout the squad' brigade), we have 2 squad positions nailed down next year that 6 months ago were uncertain. Plus the likes of Veljkovic in the wings.

So, goodbye, thanks and good luck, Tim, but GENUINELY thanks for promoting these guys.

It's cool to be a hater didn't you know that. Fans hate Tim, It was Tim that brought through Bentaleb so they hate him because of that.

I love it when a player comes through the ranks, as I am over the moon that Harry Kane is finally getting his chance, i'm over the moon that Townsend got his chance, i'll be over the moon if Tom Carroll makes it, like I was also gutted when Caulker got sold.

The dislike stems from fans thinking he has been overplayed by Tim. It is absolutely ridiculous though, I actually think in the 2nd half of the year Eriksen aside, Bentaleb has been our best performed midfielder. He keeps play ticking over better than Paulinho and Dembele who have been quite poor. He has also remained fit and Tim has been able to call upon/rely upon him more than he can some of the senior players.

The fact is....yes perhaps he has been overplayed...but...what is his competition? Have they been better? Some fans want them played for the sake of it because they are big names.

There is great upside in Bentaleb and we should be throwing our support behind the land regardless of your opinion about Tim Sherwood (who also cops it unfairly).

I think some of it also comes from a backlash against the hardcore Bentaleb fans - you know how it is, always someone wants to knock it down, however, on some social media the knocking of the lad is quite massively shouted down by some really, really over-enthusiastic supporters flooding forums or sites with way over the top praise. The Tottenham bookface page was getting ridiculous for the number of arguments where any pic of Bentaleb in it was instantly flooded with hundreds of comments from people who, i got the impression, weren't so inspired by his football, more his religion or nationality.

That's fine, but it can get a little tiresome when all of his supporters feel the need to comment on all of his pictures, then you scroll down and find one without him in it and the comments? "Where's Bentaleb?"

I like a lot of things but i don't feel the need to bombard every person who goes within fifty feet of it with declarations of my love for them, and how some almighty being has blessed that thing.

Too far, guys.

He kicks a ball well, he's not curing cancer with healing hands or folding time/space.

Caaalm.
