Cheers for the d'oh A&C! Don't you think that Poch's recruitment has been a tad patchy? If we splurge a huge amount on Zaha, we have way less money to spend on players in areas we actually have a more pressing need to address. You, sir, are obviously a West Ham fan.

Sack the **** then. He’s obviously shite. Or at the very least never ever sign anyone he wants ever again. And then look forward to Pardew getting the job :nailbiting:

That's just flippant. Poch has a lot of great qualities but he could do with being smarter with transfers, especially when it involves such astronomical sums. Do you think it would be money well spent?

Do you want me to list the successful signings in response to what was a massively crap point?

That way we can bang on about it for ages.

I can’t think of any managers that haven’t signed their fair share of players that didn’t work out.

If people are basing their opinion of Zaha on having watched him prior to this season then it is understandable of they have a less than positive view . Understandable but wrong.

Last season Zaha matured and transformed his game. He had always been fast and skillful, but horribly wasteful as well with little end product. I would have been against us spending serious money on the old Zaha. Last season under Hodgson however he developed into a player who could be almost impossible to play against on his day. I think Poch would improve him even further. I don't even think he is a riskier purchase than the likes of Martial or Pulisic. Whichever one we get i'll be happy (y).
There are a few problems though.

One of the reasons Zaha looked more consistent is he was played centrally and all the other Palace players constantly looked to give him the ball at all times. Neither of those things are going to happen here. He won’t be playing centrally ahead of Kane, Alli, or Eriksen, and he wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) be played as the auxiliary striker ahead of Son because his finishing is still incredibly erratic - we all saw as much when we had to play against Palace.

I seriously worry about him being the type of player that has to be the team’s key player in order to look good and as soon as he’s no longer the number one option the production and quality of play dramatically drops. Very similar to Sigurdsson who produced similar heroics with Swansea, but can’t do it when he has to be in a team with better players like us or Everton.

I also think his lack of finishing ultimately is the biggest reason that I’m not terribly interested. I think his skillset would be good against the other top teams when we can get a few counterattacks and 1 vs 1s going, except therein lies the problem that it could generate a few chances but I have no confidence he could actually finish them.

Then there’s people saying he’s the answer against packed defenses? Come on now. Teams sitting deep will never let him get in behind and since as I explained before he won’t be played centrally he’ll just be shepherded into cul-de-sacs out wide like most players of his ilk are. I’ll never understand why people think fast dribblers beat tightly packed deep defenses. They don’t. In fact that’s almost literally what those defensive tactics are aiming to defeat.

Go back in the thread and watch those Liverpool highlights.

Now imagine three players trying to mark him while you have Eriksen or Dele free and now put Kane in the box.

He is one of the very few players that will improve us in the attacking positions. He scored 9 goals, yes not that many but key points....

In the PL
Injured for part of the season
With absolute turgid players around him

Expensive, but far better than spunking 25mil on potential French players.

Martial, yes but at the same price?? Pulsic young and potential at the same price??

Apart from a miracle Bale signing or a magical Dybala swoop. I don't see a better option.

Who else? infact if we don't sign any of the above, I would prefer to stick with what we have in those positions.

Makes me remember when we were linked with Andy Johnson, perspective.

I think Zaha improves our attacking depth considerably.

Would be an exciting signing in terms of how kane, Dele and Eriksen would benefit from the space he'd create.

Irrelevant really, he's got so much credit in the bank he could sell sisokko for 30 million and resign him for 60 and you'd still be obligated to get down on your knees and take the pochmeister.
