Wilfried Zaha wants to leave Crystal Palace but clubs will have to shell out £70m to land winger

Tottenham, Everton and Borussia Dortmund are all chasing Zaha but will have to dig deep for him

WILFRIED ZAHA has told Crystal Palace he wants to leave this summer.

But the winger’s hopes of a move could be scuppered by the club’s £70million price tag.

Tottenham, Everton and Borussia Dortmund are all chasing Zaha and he has now informed Eagles chiefs he is keen to go.

SunSport revealed earlier this month that the Ivory Coast star, 25, turned down a new £125,000-a-week contract at Palace.

But his decision is nothing to do with money, just his ambition to play for a bigger club.

Zaha flopped after joining Manchester United for £15m in 2013, moving back to South London just two seasons later.

But he now feels ready for another crack at a top side.

Palace would want at least £70m to part with their star man, who penned a five-year deal at Selhurst Park 15 months ago.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson recently said: “He is our player for the next four years and the club has no interest or desire to sell him.”

He was named Palace’s Player of the Year for the third season running in May after helping them avoid relegation.

Zaha tweeted yesterday that he is back in training at Palace after leaving the club’s pre-season tour to Sweden early to visit his dad in hospital.

Just came across this....

Explains why it didn't work at United, his natural ability and what he needed to improve.

I think he has massively improved what Rio's concerns were as well.

Sun and Mirror running the story, does seem that the player does really want out.

For me that shows how much he's grown over the last season. He was happy to take the money and stay at Palace as the big fish, especially after being burnt at Utd. So for him to reject a payrise and ask for move is a pretty big deal.

I have a mate that's a Palace fan so I keep an interest in them, it did feel that he took on extra responsibility and matured last season.

The question is how does this deal work for Palace? A big wad of cash to buy 3-4 players is great but they haven't much time to spend it!

To be honest, I understand that loads of people will disagree with me. I just fail to see a better option at the moment who would be significantly cheaper without being a lot shittier/less proven as well. For once I just want us to go get a proven player that Poch clearly wants.
Not significantly cheaper, perhaps the same price, but both Brandt and Bailey are better than Zaha

He finished the season playing as a striker and was known as much as a striker as a winger when he broke through at Palace.

This bit is not directed at you:-

Feel like there's a bit of bad rep here because he plays for Palace. He was widely regarded as one of the best players outside the top 6 along with Mahrez.

As I've said before I'm getting a bit of a Wanyama vibe from this thread. I think Zaha could cause havoc in our side, he is direct, skilful and unpredictable.
He’s played as a striker about 20 times in his career according to Transfermarkt scoring 9 goals compared to Son who has played there roughly 50 times. They might not be exactly accurate but the numbers won’t be that far off. I personaly wouldn’t be happy with ether of those two being our second striker going into the new season. Martial made sense to me as he started out as a forward and has played there many times. Now I realise loosing out on Martial wasn’t our choice but if we are going to add a new wing forward it should be one who is equially adept at playing striker and has had extensive game time in that position. But, ether way, Poch likes him so that’s all that matters.

Probably 1 or 2 going their way on perm or loan as makeweight I would guess. I still think they will hold out to see if Chelsea move as a Hazard replacement, as they can both pay more and offer better players in exchange.

Your right, if Hazard moves, which we all sort of expect to happen, it could well have a knock on effect. Seems like that is happening a lot this window.

Chelsea selling Hazard to Madrid. They would not get a better player than Zaha given they have to play Europa. If we want Zaha, we got to move faster.

21 apps, 9 goals were the stats from last season. Just checked whoscored.com.

Roy played him in a 2 man strike force with Benteke, Sorloth or Townsend (believe it or not!).

I'm sure he was considered more of a forward than winger pre Utd too, but as with a lot of pacey young strikers was used wide when breaking through (such as Rashford).

As for the Kane backup, it's been clear that it's very tricky. I hoped Llorente would work but it just didn't. I thought we played well with Son as a 9. Martial I agree was a better fit as a hybrid but from what I saw last season I think Zaha could do a job too.

Oh and anyone saying he isn't effective against packed defences and only works on the counter attack - see his goal against Hull were he smashes it in after incredibly working an angle for himself.

We currently don't have anyone in the squad who can do that. Moura perhaps but he isn't able to generate as much accuracy and power in his shots.

I wonder if they have blown us out of the water for Martial with the potential Hazard money actually.
